Cool Peruvian restaurant with some delicious dishes. The place is very loud and lively. Service was prompt and friendly. Complimenting plantain chips were very good especially with the dipping sauce. Classic ceviche ($18) – fresh and delicious to share as a starter. The adobo nikei ($34) slow cooked short ribs were super tender and flavourful. The taro pure was a great match. Portion was fair but looked tiny next to the pollo a la brasca ($24) half chicken. The chicken was very flavourful. It wasn’t super moist but good enough. The sides for the chicken: rice was buttery and addictive, fries crispy, salad had a great dressing that was tangy, beans are not my fave in the general and these were on the more bland side. I didn’t care for the three dipping sauces as they didn’t complement the chicken which was already flavoured enough. Overall a nice dinner choice!

Tanta is great! They have a beautiful selection of cocktails that suits all tastes. I chose the La Guapa, which was delicious and I would recommend to anyone who likes tart cocktails. Because we were a large groups, we left ourselves in the hands of the kitchen who put together a menu for us. They did a fantastic job, letting us try a wide variety of the menu and ensuring there was enough food. Top recommendations would be: Pobre Nigiris, Lomo Saltado, Nikei Tiraditos, and the chocolate mousse. The pork fried rice was a little disappointing and the octopus was quite tough unfortunately. I would absolutely go back, but this is definitely a ‘special occasion’ restaurant given that it is a little pricey!

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Chicago, hands down. Cocktails were incredible – highly recommend the El Chingon. It comes with an ice cube ball that I believe is cayenne flavored or something similar. As the ice melted it gave the drink more of a kick. SO GOOD! Also can’t go wrong with a classic Pisco sour here. The food menu is a little overwhelming, especially if you’ve never had Peruvian food before so definitely ask your server for their suggestions! My bestie came prepared and had studied the menu ahead of time (eating out is like her MNF) so she already had a few dishes picked out but our server pretty much told us to steer clear of all of those items. We were really happy we listened to her! Some of the stand out food items were: Criollo from the Niguiris section (bay scallops), Chaufa Aeropuetro (pork fried rice), and the octopus skewers. I literally had no idea octopus could taste SO good. Do yourself a favor and check out Tanta! lifeontiptoes.com

I was with a group so the food was fixed but everything from the two different kinds of ceviche, the pork belly sliders and the quinoa salad to the empanadas were amazing. Really good fresh tasting food. Heads up though, the pisco sour is extremely sour, more like a palate wrecker!

Brunch is a great deal here (dinner is pricey). Authentic Peruvian cuisine in a lively bright colored atmosphere. I would give this place all of the props if not for hefty price tags. But brunch is a good deal. Don’t miss lemon thyme mimosa. Order your Bloody Mary with pisco instead of vodka, & explore the section of the menu called Chefs Having Fun. I ended up with grilled beef heart, my companion with chicharrone waffle. Fun indeed!

Tanta is a Peruvian restaurant in River North with a beautiful rooftop terrace. I recently stopped in for after work drinks and tapas and we got to take full advantage of the beautiful weather and great atmosphere. The cocktails were inventive, colorful, and flavorful and there were a few craft beers on the menu to appease everyone’s tastes. Most of us ordered empanadas to snack on, with one of us ordering the chicken skewers. I had the steak empanadas, which brought the heat, although seemed to be more sauce than steak. This is another restaurant in Chicago that has yet to jump on the happy hour bandwagon, but everything we had was tasty and it’s a great spot to eat/drink al fresco with a group of people. windycity-wanderlust.blogspot.com
