The Boarding House is cozy and welcoming. We enjoyed how wine was an important part of the concept. Yet, its not the whole concept. There is a cellar, but there is a full-bar on the first floor. While waiting for our table on the second floor, we had cocktails that were simply lovely. A traditional old fashion for Nabol and a Dirty Bird for me, made with sparkling wine, peach liquor, orange juice and fresh mint. Light and refreshing. The dinning room on the second floor is open and inviting. The menu is creative with lots of comforting options. Just wait until they serve you the polenta fries with bchamel sauce, truffle shavings and an egg sunny side up. Divine! The merguez stuffed calamari is also a great appetizer, served with a bed of flageolet beans and a touch of harissa. For dinner options, you cant go wrong with their succulent mushroom risotto or you can try their Amish chicken with a Yukon potato hash, piquillo puree, calabrian chili and lemon crme fraiche. Both options paired perfectly with a simple glass of their Brezza Chardonney from the Piedmont region of Italy. Portions are pretty good too. We almost didnt have room for dessert, but couldnt resist. My favorite was the chocolate bar flowerless cake, while Nabol really liked their oatmeal cookie sandwich with cream cheese and bourbon caramel filling. A nice ending to a gorgeous dinner.Overall, the Boarding House does deliver on the dinning experience you expect downtown, with comforting, new flavors that are unexpected. Its whimsical and takes elements from our citys trends and traditions. Its the kind of perfect place you take out-of-towners to give them a taste of what your city has to offer. verdelicias.com
When you walk into this place, it is truly unique, because the entire center of the bar is a chandelier of glasses. Beautiful and amazing! Then when you venture to the second floor dining room above the bar is an entire chandelier of wine bottles…appropriate because of the owner’s background and love of wine!Aside from the very dramatic light fixtures, the overall decor is really neat. Very vintage, but modern making it nice with out being stuffy. The staff is friendly and helpful in choosing drinks and wines. The scallops I had the last time I was there were cooked perfectly and paired nicely. The crispy chicken thighs and pork chop which I just took a taste of were also both amazing. northandred.com

Not recommendable. The restaurant is beautiful, but everything else was just OK. The food was disappointing.Staff was rude. Waist of time and $$$. Alpana should hire new chef.
Promising new spot. My wife and I stopped by the bar for drinks and some food the day after the official restaurant opening. Couldn’t get reservations for the dining room but decided to get a feel for the place in the bar, where you don’t need reservations. We were able to quickly get a table in the bar when we arrived around 5. The chairs were the most comfortable bar stools I’ve ever sat on. Nice ambiance to the place (the hanging glass accent over the bar is something to see). It was really hopping by the time we left at 6.Our waitress was very knowledgeable of both the food and drink menus. It was also nice to see the owner (Alpana Singh) out and about making sure everything was going well.Tried a few things on the bar menu – a small pork sandwich (forget what it was called but very tasty), the pork tots (pulled pork in an over-sized tater tot – interesting), some house fries (topped with pecorino cheese and served with ketchup and mayo – OK) and a chicken poutine pizza (really good). Tried a couple of the house cocktails which were good. There’s a pretty extensive (~450 choices) wine list by the bottle and a decent number of selections by the glass. Unfortunately they were out of 2 of the 6 draft beers on the menu, but I attribute that to growing pains (it’s only their second day…). My only real criticism was that the wine pours by the glass seemed very small for the price. All in all, we enjoyed our first visit and look forward to returning to eat in the dining room
