The first time we tried to get in here it was late and all of the tables were full. We resolved to come back the next day around what we thought would be an in between lunch/dinner time. Once again all of the tables were full but we were glad to wait about 30 minutes for a table to clear. Once we were seated a whirlwind experience began. We picked the #1 ChaDol-Gui. We noticed the menu stated it was a portion for 2 so we only ordered it plus a Mul Mandu appetizer. Normally we would order 2 items but I payed attention to the menu and other reviews advising not to order too much. It’s a good thing because we had more than enough food for two. Every single thing we ate was good and I do not think we left anything behind. I also paid attention to the negative comments regarding the service and was ready for an abrasive server. Even on the night we were turned away we were politely told that they could not serve us. Even the 2 guys in front of us were told they could not get any take out food. The service was good, fast and efficient. If anyone was going to possibly get bad service, we might have been good candidates because I am Korean and my wife is Caucasian. I don’t have a single complaint about our experience and would be ready to go back today.

I’ve tried a ton of Korean bbq joints but this has got to be one of the best in the city of Chicago. The place is small so there’s usually a line out the door, especially during dinner service BUT it’s definitely worth the wait! No other place serves you free kimchi fried rice if you get the cha dol gui (unmarinated beef). They also use a stone pot to grill which is super traditional and makes the rice so crispy if you do it right! I always enjoy coming here and bringing new people here to experience traditional korean bbq. Their homemade fresh kimchi is also one of my favorites by far, more than any other korean restaurant. Other dishes to try if you’re trying to venture outside the bbq section are So-gogi Soon Dubu Jjigae (beef tofu stew), and Bi-bim naeng myun (spicy cold mixed noodles).

There was a bit of a wait and its just an honor system line, and service was very expedient, borderline rushing. The food was heavenly, I couldn’t help but stuff my face with all the amazing pickles even before the actual meat arrived at the table. I could have made a meal off just the seaweed salad, kimchi, and mushrooms. The pork dish was cooked perfectly and the flavor balance between spicy and savory was …well perfect.

Little did I know what I was getting myself into when I heard we were going to Korean BBQ. We opted for the Chadol-gui (thinly sliced brisket) that you cook yourself on the skillet in the middle of the table. The meal was accompanied with many small dishes (banchan) that included sweet potato, kimchi, and pickled cucumber…among other things. Afterwards, mil maegmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) were served in a salt and vinegar broth. All in all, the meal was fantastic. The venue itself is very small and there was a line out the door for the entirety of our dinner.

Korean BBQ please! This place is legit for some authentic eats! Any night of the week there’s usually a line out the door, because they don’t actually take reservations and you just have to stand in line. Super cheap and always better with groups of 4-6 so you can share, but so that you can actually fit at a table, because it’s not very big inside. northandred.com

Rude waitresses and horrific service. Service is one of THE worst I ever experienced. The waitresses made us feel like we came to beg for food for free. Totally ruins the dining experience no matter how good the food is.
