Fountainhead is a neighborhood gem. The rooftop garden in particular is one of my favorite destinations in the summer. Sip a cool glass of ros while listening to good tunes and chatting with very friendly bartenders. Word to the wise: menus are different in the main restaurant and on the roof due to kitchen constraints. Plan accordingly. Excellent beer & scotch selections for those so inclined.
Great food, ambience and service.. We were a party of 15 on a Saturday night. Food was fresh, hot, good and served with out a hitch! Fountainhead never disappoints.
Good food, SLOW service. I really like this place. I think the atmosphere is fabulous, their beer list is tops and their food is tasty and inventive. I would go here far more often if it wasn’t so slow. It’s because everything else here is so good that makes me come back.
Wonderful place. The breakfast manhattan is the best drink I’ve had in a long. These people definately know how to make a great drink. The menu is also great
Go for beer… Say for food. On a recommendation from friends we tried Fountainhead. The beer selection is amazing with a number is ales from old world. What was surprising was the food which was great. The Mac-n-cheese was one of the best.
Going downhill/Used to really like it. The first time we went to the FH, we really liked it. The Moo (a conglomeration of pub cheese spread, monkey bread [with bacon & blue cheese I believe] and some other sort of cheesiness was fantastic. That, and a good overall menu + a thoughtful, interesting & unique taplist made for a good place.Visit two was still quite good but not exceptional. A couple of taps were out & the braised pork sandwich sounded fantastic, but the sandwich was nothing to write home about. (The mac & cheese WAS though.)Visit 3: granted it was a Saturday night, but our server was virtually nonexistent, they were out of 3 draft beers we tried to order (we were told that they were changing the tap list, it would be out in 10 minutes or so & that the server didn’t even know what they would be replacing things with…. Needless to say, said list never materialized nor did our waiter ever offer what the kegs got changed out too; instead he suggested we take a look at the huge bottle list. Great, but one comes to the Fountainhead for their eclectic list.) On said third visit, the pub cheese (always good/great before) was toned down & fine, but nothing special. The housemade vegy burger was dry as the Sahara (and we have had it & enjoyed it before)and the Egg Salad sandwich was decent. Our service was bad; there’s really not much else to say about it.I am really hoping that this was an aberration. LOVE a place with a great tap list & interesting upscale pub food. So excited about Phil Kuhl’s (assuming he’s still there) beer lists — exceptional and hoping that the kinks will work themselves out.
Eh…so, so….. I was really excited to check this place out as it came highly recommended by a friend whose opinion I fully trust when it comes to food. I had to inform her that I was disappointed and underwhelmed. Our server was adorable, sweet, and informative though we were a little put off when we asked for a booth and were told they were reserved for larger parties (we were a party of 3 and no more than 4 people would fit in a booth) We ordered the mussels for an app, WAY too salty. The broth had a great flavor but it was hard to taste because of the saltiness. I ordered the Hanger Steak, which was cooked properly and seasoned nicely. It was served over a corn and blackbean salad that had absolutely no flavor…I might as well have been eating plain beans out of the can! Another diner had the egg salad sandwich which was good, very interesting. The other had a burger that he said was only fair. THe beer, wine and whiskey selection is great so maybe this place is better for a drink than it is for a meal!
