One of the worse places I have tried in Illinois.Bad food and bad service. They even brought me the wrong dish. Very disappointing service. The atmosphere looked promising, and the smells seem lovely, but service did seem to be terribly lacking when i visited this place. A pity.NEVER AGAIN!

I was determined to order the pork shank on my second visit to Laschet’s Inn. Its only served on Saturdays. The first visit was a low key dinner for my German boyfriends dinner. There are many things I love about Laschet’s food wise. And a few minor rings I question. On our first visit , the Sauerbraten had a whitish sauce not usual for the dish. We didn’t complain and worked through it. But we loved the Hackpeter ( steak tartar) ,liver pate, and rouladen. The liver pate could have been served with a nicer cracker as opposed to saltines. The bread is good solid German brown bread but served again with butter in those UH sealed little packs on wooden board with knife. The accompanying soup of clam chowder tasted as if it was from a can. Little things, not major, but ones that take away from the great experince. A few changes that could be updated. But the main entrees of the pork shank, and rouladen hit it out of the park.We have not had the sausages or pretzle yet. The service is great, and the excellent range of German beer flows from the draft .This is a good place to meet and drink, and eat. Old school Chicago feel, which is much appreciated in the days of slick concept restaurants. Dinner is always followed with a choice of German schnapps. I highly recommend the pork shank to everyone.

Some of these reviewers are way off base. This place is not a dive. It is a nice neighborhood German restaurant that has great food and fantastic beer. I’ve been coming here for years and found this restaurant outstanding (including the wait staff).

Good food, great service. Marcus really took care of us, complete with a complementary shot. Unpretentious, inexpensive. Our beers cost as much as much as the food. Definitely recommended.

Cute place for dinner. The food is not as good as it was with the previous owner. Bartending staff is rude. Waitstaff was friendly and good. Would not go again if I had to stand by the bar to wait for a table. Can’t imagine anyone hiring the guy with an attitude. Must be a family member who could not get a job

Jever. This is my husband’s favorite dive in the city. He loves to drink jever (Northern German beer) and they happen to have it on tap. We’ve come here numerous times, held birthday parties here, many date nights, study sessions… it’s a wonderful place to eat and drink. The staff is friendly and very obliging. The German food is authentic and delicious, not mention very reasonably priced. Last time we came here to drink and eat dinner (just after our honeymoon) we ran into former Governor Blagojevich! Talk about a memorable time…
