This is not what German food tastes like, at all. My parents lived in Germany and were so disgusted with it as I was. Go to New Glarus in Wisconsin for food that is similar but actually good.
Open on Sunday for breakfast. Who knew. Menu is eggs either fried or omelet. And sausage, German rye bread.
German cuisine from an American perspective. Der Rathskeller is a fantastic restaurant with reasonable prices. Service is typically reasonably good – I’ve been there a lot – so It’s been hit or miss over time. For someone with knowledge of authentic German cuisine, though – you’ll find that it’s not quite the quality that you’d find hoofing it between small towns in Germany. However, what more could be expected in the heartland of the US? Give it a chance, though – Der Rathskeller will win your heart. It’s just not as authentic as it pretends to be.
Great Place. We always love going to Der Rathskeller. The beer garden is great on a summer evening, and the cellar is cozy in the winter. We’ve been going here regularly for many years and have never had a problem with slow service, and we’ve always been pleased with our food and the servers. It’s a unique Rockford treasure that everyone will enjoy.
Inexperienced young cooks and annoying management that yelled at them as if they are were children infront of customers. Good beer and overpriced food. I would compare this place to a drunken night in college. Drink alot, get greasy food, take home a subprime women and regret it all the next morning. And I still go back!
This is one of the best kept secrets in Rockford. Their food is fresh and homemade. On Wednesday I believe, they have an all you can eat brat special. You can’t believe how delicious their brats are. They are made from scratch daily. How can you beat that?!
Love this place!. Both times I’ve eaten here I’ve had all 4 german sides-it’s way too hard to pick one or two. The homemade sausages are wonderful, the speicals are superb, even the homemade breads are great. Everything is hardy and tasty and if you wash it all down with those frothy sweet, dark german beers you will be in heaven.
