Mixed bag. The Stockholm is a Rockford institution and I like to bring out-of-town guests there, just for the experience. It’s huge, full of engaging Swedish reminders, and kind of fun. But otherwise, I rarely eat there, despite living within walking distance. The waitresses are kept very busy, and service often suffers. The food is forgettable, for the most part, and sometimes, just poor. I do enjoy the all-you-can-eat cod dinner on Fridays. The breakfast buffet is poor – in the future, I’ll give it a skip and just order a fresh plate of the Swedish pancakes. They’re usually pretty good, but my mother’s were so much better! On the whole, I’d say to try the Stockholm at least once. You might like it, as a lot of reviewers clearly did, but keep your expectations on the modest side.
Overrated. It’s like eating in a nursing home, they need to make better food too
This restaurant has been a tradition in my family since I was little, so visiting town with my boyfriend I was excited to share it with him. To bad our experience was less then impressive. We walked in and the hostess was clearly annoyed that we interrupted her conversation with her boyfriend. She snapped ‘how many?’ we answered ‘2’ and she rolled her eyes and said ‘come with me’. After getting sat a busser finished setting our table placing the silver directly on the table, before placing it on a napkin, the whole time not acknowledging us. Our server never introduced herself and was more interested in finishing her side work and the two tables on either side of us than meeting our needs. We had to flag her down from cleaning to order and get beverages. When we got to the counter to pay the hostesses were all joking around with the one girls boyfriend and we had to interrupt them to pay. The food was great as usual but the complete lack of service was disappointing and embarrassing to me for talking this place up so much.
Swedish Pancakes. Sorry, I can make better ones at home. The pancakes they served tasted like burnt frypan.
Saturday smorgasbord. We haven’t tasted Swedish Pancakes this good since Mom made them. We tell all our Swedish friends about this place and they ALL love it. Anxious to try the Sunday brunch. Ymmmm!
The food is ordinary to poor only to be outmatched by the bad service. I don’t understand the good reviews other than this place has been around for a long time and their customers dont get around much.
Overrated. Lots of people there, but whats the fuss? Sausage links were cold and looked like dog ( fill in the blank), Eggs undercooked, toast was sloppy messy with way too much butter even though I asked for it to be lightly buttered. Also service was slow and unfriendly and the coffee is like floor dust. Just goes to show in many places it’s style over substance…………places look good but food is lousy………..is it the new trend? I hope not.
