Quite the gem!. I was recently en route to Chicago for a half marathon and was in need of a place to stop and have my runner pasta feed. In the past I had always picked waffles and pancakes over spaghetti and penne, but for some divine reason I was feeling more Italian than Swedish. So happy for that! I ordered the Parmigiana Trio, quickly devoured the bread basket, enjoyed the salad, and enjoyed my whole grain pasta upgraded entree. Vito, the award winning head chef, checked in and chatted with us twice, exchanging personal stories about growing up in his grandmother’s kitchen and telling us that he actually serves a lot of Minnesotans. (Maybe he should take that as a hint to make his next restaurant in Minneapolis…) If you find yourself traveling to Chicago and need a place to stop and eat, or even if you don’t feel like you need to eat, STOP. And do better than I did and save room for dessert – that’s my only regret.
Awsome food!. I brought 3 visiting friends from the Twin Cities to Vito’s for dinner. I had never been there before and I’ll certainly be going back. Lasagne was the best I’ve had in years. 2 gals had the Alfredo, one with chicken and the other with shrimp. Both were rated as excellent. The 3rd gal had the filet mignon and it apparently melted in her mouth! The salads were wonderful as well. Service was great and Vito himself came by our table for a chat. Best Italian in Rockford and a wonderful place to take visitors and the lasting impression will travel well back to Minnesota. My Italian son-in-law from Baltimore MD will be very happy when I take him and my daughter to Vito’s the next time they visit.
Great customer service/alfredo. Had a reservation for 7 but the place was full. We let them know we had to get out by 8 to get to the movies. Vito and the staff got on it! When some dallying folks finally got up, the staff swooped in and made our table ready. They made heroic efforts to get us out on time without compromising our meal. (Vito insisted the fish must be done right but he’d get us to the movies.) I like Italian and I’m vegetarian so I’ve had a lot of fettuccine/linguini alfredo. This is the best you’ll get anywhere! Sauce is the right taste and texture.
My husband and I chose Vitos after reading the reviews. The portions were huge, the food was great, the staff was friendly, and the restaurant was peaceful. We will definitely be going back
Fan-flipping-tastic. I went to Vito’s for the first time Saturday June 16, 2012. Been looking in Rockford for a great Italian restaurant, and finally found it. Was seated immediately, all of the staff were very friendly, and my waitress was the best I have had in years. Food was amazing. Parm Trio, Shrimp Alfredo, and a special Seafood Pasta. Each one of us were so impressed, we ate a bit of each others food too. I had hesitated on writing a great review, because I wanted to make this my own little secret place to go, but you really need to try this place. Oh, and I’m thinking Frank Nocifora, if that’s a real name, probably owns stock in Franchesco’s, which has nothing on Vito’s culinary expertise.
Review of Vito’s Restaurant. One of the worst meals I have had in Rockford. Service was terrible. You were not even finished with a serving when they were trying to put your next serving on the table. Soup cold and had to be sent back. Fish was totally overcooked. Ordered different entre which came 15 minutes after all others were finished eating. Chef came to apologize, but offered nothing to make up for the incident. Will never return to this restaurant.
Great food and a genuine owner!!!
