Ate at joe rodgers many times and always loved it. i dont know what happened when it changed hands, it looks like it still has same ingredients as before..the place is very clean but something has changed and the flavor just isnt there…my first impulse was that it seemed a bit watered down…to be fair i was there when they reopened maybe got things going now but ive talked to several people i used to see there and they feel the same way i do…it was perfect chilli …i wish the owners could get this straightend out in the meantime ill go to carlinville to taylors…mighty fine stuff there…

BAD MANAGEMENT. The Den was the best chili in an area known for chili but Mary Ann had the poor judgement to sell the business to a couple of yuppies who thought they knew how how to run a chili parlor. Now the best chili place in town is gone because the new owners were more interested in the title than the product. Shame on all of you involved in the demise of a Springfield classic. Joe is rolling in his grave.

Medium Hot. This stuff runs hot. I want more. And more. Pass the oyster crackers.

WORST CHILI EVER!!. This was honestly the worst place I could have eaten in Springfield. The service was pathetic and I quickly overheard the workers spewing terrible language and insults among themselves about the customers and spent too much time on their phones. On top of that, my order was incorrect and when it was finally given to me, the grease made the food unbearable. I truly wish I could give no stars at all. The service is terrible, the owners are terrible, the food is terrible. As a warning to all who consider going here: DON’T.

The haters!!! It’s called hold the oil. That is what makes the Springfield classic so great. U can customize it. I eat a bowl of touch, light beans, HOLD the OIL!! 😉 I love it!! Yumm.
