This was my first time dining at this restaurant. I didn’t even know it was tucked away within the gables in Springfield Illinois. What a hidden treasure! The portions are large, the ambiance is lovely, the food is outstanding. The staff was patient with me while I was indecisive about what to order, the decor was eclectic, which was very pleasing to my eye. The prices were a little too high to make this a regular occurrence, but I am in no way disappointed with my meal or my experience. The brownie was decadent, the salad was crisp and fresh, the dressing was delightful, and the Reuben sandwich was honestly the most amazing and flavorful Ruben I have ever eaten in my life, I dare say perfect. I have been on a quest for the perfect Reuben for years and I think I finally found it.
Where’s The Smoke?. This place is a joke How can you call your self a BBQ when you don’t smoke your meat over real wood or at least coals. We spent over $40 and for Briskett that had little to no smoke flavor Pork Ribs that were salty and flat on flavor So at best I would say this is BBQ style at and go somewhere that use accually uses real BBQ skills.
I really think their BBQ meats were never in a smoker of any kind because they lack any real smoked flavor. The ribs taste oven baked with store bought sauce, and the Brisket All can say is I can do better with liquid smoke and cooking it a low temp for a few hours I would like Mr McCormick to prove to us that they really do have a smoker and use it for all their BBQ Because there is a new awesome BBQ called No Swine Left Behind only open Saturday and Sunday but oh so good for the real deal not pretend flavor
I have no idea how they can call themselves a smokehose. I ordered a rib combo with brisket. The brisket was too fast and served like Italian beef. Not sliced but shaved in liquid… Now for the ribs… I could have done better myself on my grill at home. No smoke flavor and tough. The potato salad was runny. Gross! Save yourself time and money go to Hickory River around the corner. They do it right.
If you are gonna call yourself a smokehouse try smoking your meats more than 10 minutes. I had the ribs today and they were horrible. They tasted like they were boiled until done then lightly seared.
