Terrible food, Horrible service. Horrible dining experience! It took an hour to get our food and then the steak was raw inside (we ordered med.) The waitress was rude and indignant that we wouldn’t eat the raw steak. The manager is a total creep too…You might think that they would want the customer to be happy and return……they could care less! I guess they have enough drunks at the bar to keep their doors open. If you eat here after reading this….that’s on you….you have been warned!

A very unique place. Character for sure. Friendly staff and food is mostly fried and steaks adequate. Like out of a time machine…..dark and old (1927 it opened). Bad neighborhood but full-time guard in parking lot adds to ambience! They still serve ice cream after dinner drinks…..really old school.

Terrible experience. The Old Luxemburg Inn in Springfield Illinois turned what was a poor meal into an awful experience Thanks, Manager guy, who I can only assume is family, as his attitude screamed I cant get fired, bite my ass. Im in Springfield to visit my mother (96 and in a nursing home), and am staying with my sister. They had made plans to go out to eat with 2 other couples that evening, so along with myself and their son (who we enlisted as our designated driver, because, you know, adults need their beverages), our party was 8 strong. The Old Luxemburg sign says since 1941, and is located in what is now a shady neighborhood (they hire security to park in their parking lot). We arrived at 6:30, when we had reservations and were seated in the furthest dining room from the bar. I would describe this place as a classic old school steak house. 4 different steaks on the menu, some seafood and chicken strips for the kiddies. French fries, baked potato or hash browns. Iceberg lettuce salads. Nothing fancy or challenging, but when done right, it can be a fine dinner. When done wrong, it will spell the death of an old established place. Time does funny things when youre waiting in a restaurant. 1 minute can seem like 5. But I have no doubt that it was at least 5 minutes before a waiter came to take our drink order. A few minutes later, a different waitress came by to take our drink order. Not a good sign. She then came back with menus. We put in our orders. And waited for our salads. And waited for our salads. One gall from our group finally got up and found the manager and asked if we were going to get our salads soon. Our salads finally arrived. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. One of the guys in our group got up and found the manager and asked if it would be much longer. The manager said, and Im not making this up, what, you got a plane to catch Our food arrived. I had ordered a filet, medium rare. It was just this side of rare. I didnt mind that, but the only meal that was kind of ok was the guy who ordered shrimp (deep fried). Another of our party asked the waitress to get the manager. I took that opportunity to go outside and have a smoke. I had left about half of my steak on my plate. Halfway through my smoke my entire party appears coming out the back door. I asked what happened, and apparently the manager told them, you dont like the meal, theres the back door, turned around and walked away. So they did. I went back inside, found the waitress and handed her a $20, and said, this is from me to you. I dont know what happened tonight, but it wasnt your fault. I can only assume the following: our waitress was given our table and a number of tables in a different section, as I cannot believe she purposely ignored us. They may have been short staffed in the kitchen. Or, as the manager seemed to be nothing short of a dick, they probably have lost good staff both BOH and FOH. Foodservice workers do not get paid a lot of money. Even in this job market, there are plenty of jobs available for an experienced cook out there. If the manager treats their customers the way he did, how does he treat his staff? Restaurants live and die on Friday and Saturday nights. The A team should be working those nights. If this was their best, God help them on a Tuesday night. My assumption is that the manager is either 2nd or 3rd generation owner/family. My prediction is that the Old Luxemburg will limp along on its reputation and regulars for a few more years, then go under. RIP.

A Springfield treasure. I am happy to report that I had a great experience at the Old Luxe! Our waitress was very friendly and efficient and the food was wonderful and the price was even better! I had the fried lobster tail, which was on special, and it was delish. Plus you cannot beat $15.99 for a lobster tail, potato, and salad! Also, it’s necessary to try their chive cheese sauce, it is to die for! I would recommend getting it on the side though, it is extremely rich! I cannot wait to go back again!

Bad food bad service bad part of town. The squad car in the parking lot wasn’t a good sign at the start. It is in a bad part of town. The service was beyond slow. 2 hours to get a steak? come on. Steak wasn’t done correctly, was ice cold and bland. Sent it back and still came back underdone. Tried to complain to the manager but he said he didn’t give a damn and he meant it. First and last visit to this dive. 1/20/2012

Service was great! This is the perfect restaurant if you are 65 or older and like fried and/or cafeteria food.
