Feeling let down.. I heard good things about this place, but really, I won’t be back. There are so many places in town to get good Italian, this isn’t one of them. Sorry.

Get the steak!. Saputos is old school, supper club type Italian food. I have been coming here for decades and the food, while not fancy, is consistently great. The service is top notch with several waitresses that have worked there for years. I like the baked Rigatoni with meatballs. Also, their Saputos antipasto plate is a great start to a meal. I enjoy the Italian dishes, but what really sets the place apart are their steaks. I almost always now get an Italian breaded filet mignon. The beef is locally butchered, never frozen and superbly cooked. Whatever size the cut is listed at, it’s always a couple ounces larger. It’s not inexpensive for Springfield, but it’s about 2/3 the price of a top Chicago steakhouse. I have rarely had a better steak. Enjoy!

I Don’t Understand Why Locals Love This Place. I seriously do not understand why locals love this place. The red sauce tastes like Chef Boyardee out of a can. Disgusting! The waitress recommended the house salad dressing, which may be the only redeeming quality in this place. The pasta tastes like value-brand duram wheat and the cheese was super bland. The over-priced menu added insult to a very dissappointing evening.

Our Go to Place When in Springfield. You either love the red sauce, or you don’t. I love it. The Italian Sausage is the best ever. The cheese is very tasteful. Very good Chardonnay. Sometimes the servers may initially appear curt, but if you converse with them they quickly warm up to you.

Overpriced low quality food. I am certain that the chicken soup I ordered came straight from a can.

Best Italian in a long time. While visiting the Lincoln Museum, my wife and I thought we’d give this place a try since we were staying across the street at the Hilton. We had a great experience. We arrived on a Wednesday at 6pm without a reservation. The place was crowded but we were seated right away. If I came back I would make a reservation to ensure a seat. This is a small place with tables close together. It’s clean, relatively quiet. There is a small bar to the front. A larger room in the back I think can be used for parties with advanced arrangements. Our waitress was very friendly and served us quickly but not rushed. Spot on…I had the homemade ravioli with sausage and my wife the baked lasagna with meatballs. Both were very good. The sauce had the right amount of garlic bite to it. Very tasty entrees. We would go back.

Ate embarrassingly early on a weeknight but the place was packed. Loved the house salad dressing and generous portions. Baked ravioli was worth writing home about. Ambiance was dark yet casual and crowded.
