After a long day in Chicago, we walked into Mexique. The service was exceptional, our water glass got refilled almost a dozen times during the evening. My wife got the chicken and I got the duck. The duck blew me away. We also got PEI mussels as an appetizer – also delicious. Also the chef/owner came by to check on our meal – such a gifted and gracious man. The quality of the food and the people who run it make this a worthy choice for a night out in Chicago. theglobetrotterfoodie.wordpress.com
High end very well thought out Mexican influenced dishes. Had 6 course tasting menu. Brought our own wine. $15 corkage. It is competitive with the other high end Chicago restaurants and in some ways superior. Great favors, Mexican sauces, ingredients with fresh innovative flavors. A little heat, but more adding flavor instead of just heat. Each course described by servers. Service very friendly, professional and attentive. Great experience, definitely recommended.
We absolutely loved everything from the environment to the service to the menu and food quality…we gave it a 4 of 5 only because the lamb was a little over cooked (but we are being a bit picky). Very worth the visit!
We started with the trio of sopes which were pretty good. The flank steak that my date had was cooked very well and actually our dinner favorite. I had the pickled pork tenderloin which was nice, but I actually was more in love with the sweet potato puree that it came with.We were SO excited to have the Chocolate Enchiladas and it was kind of a let down. I think because I have had some delicious nutella and chocolate crepes from a different places that I had these incredible expectation that wasunattainable. They are not sweet, so if you are into something rich that isn’t sugar-y the garnache is very smooth and rich.Maybe someday I’ll make it back again. I do recommend it to those that are much closer to getting there than I am. It has a lovely atmosphere and the service is wonderful. northandred.com
Mexican?. The restaurant is nice, the food is good, the service is excellent and the value for money is really appropriate but this is ain’t Mexican! It’s awesome to see Mexican restaurants joining the hipster trends in cuisine, but if you are after authentic Mexican flavours this is not the right place. While they use Mexican ingredients, the techniques and compositions are so avantgarde that the essence of the Mexican dish is lost. We had the tinga de pollo (the best of all dishes), the ceviche, trio de sopes, the pozole, a fish with pineapple sauce and the chocolate enchiladas.
My husband and I had lunch here on a Friday afternoon and it was so amazing! From the cochinita rilletes appetizer to the pork belly, chorizo, and lamb barbacoa tacos and huarache de camarones main dishes to the chocolate enchilada dessert everything was incredible. I recommend this to everyone and we will definitely be back. Chef Carlos even stopped by each table to make sure we were all satisfied. What an experience.
Fusion at its Best!. The perfectly combined flavors that not only make your taste buds sing, but warm you with food passion exuding on every plate. I had an opportunity to eat at Mexique several times this past summer and loved every dish!
