New owners did the trick. Used to be my least favorite place in town. Wow, new owners Laura and Andy turned it into the best place in town. Homemade soups, pastries, best coffee, best tea, best staff. It is my home away from home. Best homemade mushroom soup I ever had. Sorry Leroys hot stuff, yours is now number two. Keep it up guys, your on the top of the heep. Love the vinyl, adds ambiance like from an old chicago neighborhood. All sorts of people in there. Young, mid aged, old like me. Thanks guys02 Jun, 2010Bob Thomas. Went back and tried the new Red Cup cafe location this past Monday. Ordered a ham and swiss sandwich on rye, with a side of potato salad. What I got was two slices of rye bread, one slice of swiss cheese, one slice of lettuce, two slices of tomato, one slice of ham, and mustard. All for $6.95. Then a small plastic cup of potato salad like the little plastic cups sauce come in for $1.95. Service was friendly, and the new store looks cool, but the price for what I got was a total ripoff. Even the new store still charges a lot for a little. Very similar to the Coldstone that used to be in Chesterton. They were expensive, and after opening cut portions way down, without cutting pricing. Who wants to spend $7 on about $1 of ice cream? For that matter I would not go back and spend $6.95 for $1 worth of sandwich. I will wait for the next restaurant to go in.26 Apr, 2010Bob Thomas. Average, but too expensive for a little Indiana sandwich shop.
