So glad Shing Lee has reopened! We got lunch to go today and it was delicious. I had the cashew beef, which came with fried rice and an egg roll for $8.50. Everything was hot and fresh. As a downtown business owner myself, it was so great to see them reopen after the fire that closed their doors almost two years ago. What a great restaurant to have again on Main Street.

I had the Hot and Sour Soup today and it was delicious, some of the best flavor I’ve had. At some Chinese restaurants the soups are REALLY thick from too much cornstarch to the point that it turns into this weird slimy not quite liquid substance. I prefer a brothier soup (like Yen Ching’s, mmmm) but a little cornstarch is ok. Shing-Lee’s is good, with just a bit of that velvety thickness to it. I could smell and taste the toasted sesame oil and a good bit of flavorful earthy Chinese mushrooms, some green onions, shredded pork, some kind of red pepper flake, possibly some bamboo shoots, nice threads of egg, and some other subtle ingredients. The only thing I couldn’t figure out were a few of these soft smooth bits that I think may have been cornstarch lumps? Maybe they were in a hurry today and didn’t use a slurry? If not it was some strange ingredient that I wasn’t that fond of. Other than that it was REALLY good. Nice contrast between the comforting spicy heat and the vinegary sourness.

Best Sesame Chicken in the area. Service was awesome. It is my new favorite restaurant.

Not bad, not the best. I think the food was OK, the Egg Drop soup was pretty good too. I was told hot and sour soup was good. We’ll try it one more time to make the final verdict, overall pretty good place, quiet and small.

Excellent food. They have the best hot and sour soup in town.
