The best ever North Indian Food I have ever tasted in the United States until now. I moved to Evansville, IN from Champaign, IL and the very first day I wanted to taste the Indian food in the city. I found Taj Mahal’s Ambience , type of songs played at the background very fascinating. Food was amazing especially paneer sabji and Nan. Perfect tandoori flavour! Highly recommended restaurant in town.

Tasters visit Taj Mahal Indian Cuisine- May 22, 2014. Tasters visit Taj Mahal Indian Cuisine on May 22, 2014. We had a large group for dinner, so they seated us in the back room. Our group started with drinks and a couple of orders of the appetizer Mix Platter which is vegetables and meats that have been batter fried and offered with dipping sauces. They also brought out naan which is a flatbread grilled on a tandoor grill. The flatbread is served hot with blistering grill marks and is perfect for soaking up the wonderful sauces with the main dishes. We ordered as a group to share and pass the dishes around. The Taj Mahal staff was very helpful and patient as we tried to order from the menu. After about ten minutes of total miss communication and many laughs we ordered a several dishes of chicken, lamb, and shrimp. The Butter Chicken was the over all favorite of the evening. This is a tandoori grilled boneless chicken that is simmered in onion and tomato cream sauce. The other chicken dishes were also well received, the Tandoor Chicken which is a yogurt and herb marinated chicken served with onions and green pepper was wonderful. The Lamb Masal was tasty but didnt have a lot of lamb in the creamy tomato sauce and the same goes for the shrimp. The dishes were all served with basmati rice. The Taj Mahal offers a couple of Indian beers and wine on the menu which several Tasters enjoyed. The atmosphere in the back room is not so interesting but there is a wood carved ornate bar in the front of the restaurant that is lovely. The service was very good and the food for the most part was good. It is worthy of a return visit. The Tasters gave it a rating of 20 out of 25 possible points. The rating is based on the atmosphere, food, drink, service, and over all experience.
Used to love it, but the quality has seriously gone downhill. The last three times I ate there, the food tasted stale and so very bland. The service is usually good and the beer prices are great, but the food is just not what it used to be.
Good Indian cuisine not exactly like the old flavor of India but still quality food not as many meat options such as the meat samosa I love but the veggie ones a good just the same. Much better setting than the new flavor of India
This restaurant is great. Great food and atmosphere. The waiters and hostess are very nice and will tell you what foods are and treat you as family. Very courtesy. The foods can come in different spice levels and has something for everyone. Awesome mango lassi!!!
