First, lets start off with the good. The biscuits and gravy my wife ordered was the best I’ve had in a long time. Definitely the best I’ve had in a restaurant setting. Alton Brown has spoiled me for good gravy. I WILL go back for those.Unfortunately, there was the bad which makes up what I ordered. I had Carols’ breakfast which was your typical sampler, and I added a pancake. The pancake was very thin. Perhaps 1/8 to 1/4 thick, and was undercooked. The rest of the entire was a standard sample — Eggs, Sausage (which was good), potato and toast. The eggs (Scrambled) were simply poured onto the griddle, and then folded into an layered mess of folded overcooked eggs. The fried potatoes were a bit on the greasy — the top 2/3 were fine but as I got to the bottom of the pile it was not enjoyable. The most disappointing part was the toast…really, how can you mess that up. It came pre-buttered with what I assume was the same stuff used to make the potatoes….it wasn’t very good.I’ll go back…but only when I’m in the mood for biscuits and gravy. I’m really disappointed giving a bad review of a local place….its really hard to compete against the well funded and professionally marketed places. I can think of NO reason to go to Crapper barrel, but they are always busy. I’d love to be able to say a local place was incredible (Oh, how I miss the Fort Grille!) but Carols wasn’t it…. 🙁
