Red Sun is the closest thing to real teriyaki I’ve had since I left Seattle… Not quite the REAL Japanese style teriyaki but close enough that I no longer feel the need to get on an airplane when I get a teriyaki jones… As an FYI for the noobs, when they ask you if you want white or brown rice, they don’t mean the brown rice that was brown when you started cooking it. It’s brown because they cook white rice seasoned with soy sauce and its worth getting it! Please try it, I’ve yet to have anyone not love it!
This place is perfect for casual dining or to go. The owner is friendly and always makes sure your order is correct. Made to order goodness! Aside from the awesome sushi the habachi and rice is very tasty
Teriyaki Chicken. Very good! Could use a little more sauce. Portion size could be a little bigger. Price reasonable. Still recommend. Slightly crispy & grilled taste.12 Feb, 2015Chicken Soba. Dish was delucious and best soba I’ve had in a long time. Chicken tasty as well as grilled and slughtly crispy. Noodles real soba noodles, not lomen like many local Japanese places try to pass off on you. Good portion size, fast serving time, fresh cooked, and very reasonably priced! Highly recommend to others! Place is not on main road and sits off, so must look for it, in stripmall Near Kroger on S-135.
The bento boxes are delicious! I also had the crispy crab roll. It was very good, and very reasonably priced. (Under $25 for two bento boxes, a specialty sushi roll, and two drinks.)
Good prices for sushi, good sushi too!. Red Sun is kind of like a fast-casual place for primarily Japanese food. They also have a smattering of Chinese. But what I really wanted to check out was their sushi. Greenwood is lacking in sushi selection with Yokohama and Ichiban reigning supreme. Red Sun’s price point comes in below Ichiban so I’d be willing to forgive some lack of creativeness or taste in the sushi. Turns out I could order $42 worth of sushi (and one spring roll) and get 5 rolls. These rolls were somewhat small in size, but none of them disappointed except the Philadelphia Roll which had a weird white sauce on it. Overall we concluded that this would be a pretty decent place to go and we will put this in our normal rotation of sushi places in town. I’d like to try their other entree options at a later date.
Pleasantly Surprised. I heard about Red Sun through a coworker and was set out to try it soon after. It’s an order at the counter, have a seat and we’ll bring the food out kind of place. They do have sushi rolls, but no nigiri or sashimi. I have never had a bento box before so I opted for the deluxe one. Split the lobster rangoon and crispy crab roll with my dining companion. The bento box was bountiful!! It came with clear soup too, however it didn’t state that on the menu. The chicken terriyaki in it was a little over cooked, but it had great flavor. The ginger dressing they serve with the salad is on the thin side, but scrumptious as well. The real winner is table sauce they called ‘yum yum’ sauce. It is served in a yellow squeeze bottle and there’s as much as you want!!! The bottle almost went in my purse with me it was so good. Just mouth watering. The lobster rangoon is essentially just crab rangoon. Good, nothing special, but definitely hits the spot. Now about the sushi. I was hesitant on ordering a bunch of rolls (hence why I tried a bento box) because I was afraid the sushi was going to be like that of a buffet style: cheap and pre-packaged with the altered-in-color tobiko. The crispy crab roll was deep fried kani (imitation crab meat) rolled with cream cheese with eel sauce on top. It was great! The rice in the roll was the perfect texture and flavor. A simple yet satisfying accompaniment to our lunch. The California roll in my bento box was fine, nothing too fancy, but I don’t usually order California rolls. During our meal there were several carry-out orders picked up and the girl running the show up front, knew them by name. They definitely have a good customer base. Speaking of her, her name was Angie, she was super friendly and sweet and really enjoyed her job and the people she works for. Would not hesitate to return to this spot!!
