Lovely Independent Eatery. I adore coming here with a few of my family members on special occasions. The prices are a little high but this isn’t very shocking at all when you consider that its a small business run by a few people. So they don’t have a whole business behind them to pay for utensils and ingrediants and things. But on to more important things, the menu isn’t very large but their food is delicious and entirely handmade, and every meal comes with a daily scone that is small cute and very delicious. The choices of teas are reasonably long but not so long that one may get confused. Better yet the options for teas change seasonally so going there on different days of the year may yield unique results with the tea. They offer a reservation service which allows you to reserve a place for yourself and a party to sit down and be served an english styled tea. This service involves two pots of randomly selected tea and two tiers of treats which include sandwiches, biscuits, and sweets. It should be made clear that tea, as a meal of the day, is meant to be a small social activity not a large meal. It is a perfect experience for a group of tea lovers, or those who don’t like to eat large meals out of house.Being a small restaurant I have yet to see it busy, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it gets very slow when it is busy. This doesn’t very much bother me due to the very atmosphere and whom I’ve seen attending.Sassafrass is set up on the first floor of an old house and is smaller than most other restaurants. It can probably handle maybe 20 guests at a time (a rough and uneducated estimate on my part). However whenever I have gone I have always noticed that the clientele are often elderly or middle aged men and women. I don’t often see people my age around there, and I think that kind of clinches on why some people adore and dislike Sassafrass. It has an atmosphere and set up that appeals to people who go their own pace, who enjoy quiet tame conversations with people, and who may enjoy smaller family owned establishments. This same thing can be unappealing for people who may enjoy more exciting venues where there is more space, more choices on the menu, and a definitive quick service.I have often wondered if online reviews of restaurants and venues are particularly helpful since I hold the firm belief that certain eateries simply aren’t for certain people. Not all restaurants are made with the same clientele in mind, and when one chooses a restaurant that doesn’t sit well with them I argue that its not always a flaw in the service but in ones own choice of venue. You chose a venue that did not match you and you had a bad experience. That doesn’t mean that that venue in particular is bad for everyone, just you.

Been here twice, since my mother really likes places like this. We both had the Chicken Velvet soup which is very good. Sandwiches come with a salad and a scone. Portions are just right. A little on the pricey side for me, but it’s still a nice place to take your mother.

Little Gem in Greenwood. I’ve been several times, both for a large party and for lunch with a friend or two. Wonderful all around. The food is unique and delicious. The portions for lunch are good sized. Maybe a little pricey, but for a once-in-a-while treat it is totally worth it. When they are busy the service is slow, but they are very attentive to what you ask for. I would recommend reservations every time, it simplifies things. Order desert when you get there, everything is made daily so when it’s gone…that’s it! I am always looking for an excuse to stop in and have a fun time. I’m happy that there are places like this popping up in the area, such a nice change from the chain restaurants and fast food junk.

Cute but costly. I took my grandmother to sassafras. It was a cute little place. The portions were very small and pricey. The food was tastey and I did enjoy the variety I received on my plate. However I left still feeling hungry. 🙁 I would try it a second time.

One of my favorite places on the planet!. Looking for a healthy, reasonably priced alternative for lunch? You will LOVE LOVE LOVE the Sassafrass Tea Room. You won’t find any hydrogenated oil here! Cheryl and her staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Leave room for a slice of pumpkin roll! To die for!

Horrrible. This was the worst and most embarrasing experience of my life. I wanted a traditional english tea for my sisiters birhtday. I invited 8 family members. the charge was ungodly for just 2 small pots of tea (not even our choice) and maybe 4 sandwiches quartered. It was a total waste of time and i will NEVER do that again

Delish!. A lot of times, you go to a tea room more for the atmosphere than the memorable food. Sassafras has both!! We went here for lunch recently, and the food was fantastic – I ordered their signature quiche dish, thinking it didn’t come with anything else – but as a pleasant surprise, it also came with a small salad, fresh fruit, and a scone. All of it was delicious! Not to mention the service was great! This charming little spot is a perfect kind of place for lunch with your sisters or girlfriends.
