WILL NOT RETURN!!!. On Saturday July 28 we arrived at 54 Main Bistro, I had called 2 weeks in advance for dinner reservations at 6 pm fpr dinner of 4, i explained to the gentelman we were going to be celebrating with a dinner for my husband and my birthday since our birthday was a week apart and we would like to dine outside as we have done in the past. he said that was fine. Well we arrived as I stated, was seated at a inside table.My husband and our 2 guests were confused why we werent outside. So I asked the owners wife, and very sarcastically replied that has to be requested at time reservation was made. And added she takes all reservations and always ask outside or inside dining. well, I said I didnt talk to you I talked to a man, which was her husband. She said well Im sorry we r booked outside. was very rude didnt even apologize for this situation. At least could have tried to get us outside since it was there mistake. And mind you only one person was sitting out on deck. So we looked at each other and decided to leave. As we were leaving she the owner replied … Oh you are leaving and said yes we are. I couldnt believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt so belittled, humiliated we will never ever return to this restaurant and after all the wonderful reviews we gave this place. I even wrote to Chef Ramsey to check them out, NEVER AGAIN AND SHAME ON YOU!! and buy the way we had a wonderful Birthday dinner else where AND WAS ABLE TO SIT OUTSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Delicious treat!. Since 54 Main Bistro, my family, friends and I go their often for lunch or dinner. We have even arranged a private party there on an off day. The service is always excellent, the atmosphere is comfortable and warm and the food is delicious. I love that the menu changes and that you are always being served fresh food with fresh ingredients. The change in the menu means I often pop back and forth to try to catch favorites. Check this place out! The best down town has to Hobart.
Amazing!. I hate to even write this review because I enjoy having this gastronomic haven for myself! I have never ever been disappointed with any of the food or the staff. The atmosphere is clean, uncluttered and cozy. The family that owns and operates this restaurant are very warm and friendly. Very pleasant. This wouldn’t mean a hill of beans if the food wasn’t FANTASTIC. I am very particular and can usually find something wrong but not with this inventive, fresh cuisine. I’ve been here multiple times but have only invited guests twice because I prefer to give my attention to the exciting dishes. Also, I find this place very relaxing. I treat myself to this restaurant once a month. Well worth every cent.
My husband & myself have been here atleast 6x as well, each time different of course since menu changes each week! We love it here especially since they put the bar in up front for before or after dinner drinks! We drive in excess of 20 miles to get there but worth it! Please see the picture I added of one of my most recent visits, a picture is worth a 1,000 words is all the more I can say!!!!
Will not return. My wife and I have dined here at least 6 times. While it tends to be a bit pricey the menus are interesting. Our previous experiences there ranged from OK to excellent but tonight was unpleasant as we were seated across what what turned out to be a boisterous birthday party of 8 people. (They had been seated after we were.) Upon leaving the owner asked me how everything was. I replied that celebration parties ought to be seated in a private area. He then argued with me explaining it was a small restaurant. Any other restaurant professional would have apologized and thanked me for the feedback. He was so arrogant that we will never return.
Not so much. The food was OK. I was not impressed nor was my wife. I was perfectly happy with a short menu (4 dinner entrees). It allowed my wife and I to enjoy our anniversary together.I had the Bistro salad and Pork tenderloin. The Bistro Salad was similar to salad from the upscale fast food restaurant (think bread). The Pork Tenderloin had cheese grits, asparaghus, and a hollandaise sauce. The hollandaise sauce ruined the dish. After a few bites I was scraping the the sauce off all that I could. I could not taste anything but the hollandaise if it was on the grits or pork. The pork was tender and it was not flavorful. I think the pork was supposed to have a sausage stuffing. I could not tell if did. The cheese grits had cheddar (I think). Absolutely nothing special. The grits tasted as if they were a filler under the pork . My wife had the cheddar brown ale bisque and fried chicken marsala. The bisque was just ok, according to my wife. I am not a fan of beer, so my comments are not relevant.The chicken marsala was not like any other marsala I have seen. The sauce was a cream base with marsala wine added. The fried chicken breast was not flavorful or special.My wife though it was ok.We shared a chocolate bourban cherry bread pudding. My wife had a few bites and asked me to finish it. I could not detect a bourban flavor. The cherries and cherry sauce were the only good parts of the dish (wife and I agree). The bread pudding by itself was moist bread with just enough chocolate to give a brown color.My wife and I had Cosmopolitans. They were well made and average priced.The food is over priced for the quality. I think the portion sizes were correct.The atmosphere of the restaurant was the best part of the evening. If the food was better my wife and I would frequent 54 Main Bistro. The restaurant is less than 10 minutes from our house. If I was asked for a dinner recommendation, I would give 5 other restaurant names and not mention 54 Main Bistro.
