The carnitas tacos are outstanding but don’t expect to ask the staff anything because very few of them speak English. The chicken tacos were dry and flavorless. I first went on a tuesday and ordered carnitas and chicken tacos, then went back on a thursday and was rudely told carnitas were only sold on the weekends. (???) Overall, the carnitas are worth stopping for. I just wish they were friendlier.

Great Food. I live close by to this store. I love the smell of the food coming from the store, it reminds me of mexico. Where else can you get cheap mexican food that is authentic-no where but from Guanajuato. The burritos are so big and filling-that all I can eat is one. The tortas are just as big. The tacos are also awesome. And you get to choose the kind of meat you want for them. You get a mild green salsa & hot red salsa (made from chile de arbol peppers) and limes(with taco order). So if your looking for authentic flavor-head over to Guanajuato’s. I also suggest trying the horchata drink(rice water), it’s the best

Makes Cebollas Look Like Taco Bell. I’m from Fort Wayne and now live in Indy where we have an even larger mexican population down here. I work on the east side so I get the fringe benefit of working down the street from Carmiceria Guanajuato. The food at the little restaurant inside is incredible. It is by far the most authentic tasting mexican food I have ever had. And after reading the previous review I will now have to try the Al Pastor. I got a chorizo burrito this time which was great and they even give you two different kinds of salsa, one a mild chile sauce and the other a very hot sauce, probably of a habanero variety. But man was it good. And for 4 dollars who can complain!?!?! I think the fact the food is extremely authentic coupled with an excellent price make this a future regular lunch stop for me.

Thank God for Al Pastor. I feel sorry for anyone that is not eating Guanajuato’s al pastor tacos on a weekly basis (monthly is ok, too). I am not sure if any other taqueria in Indianapolis is making their pastor in the authentic, correct, best tasting way: on el trompo (on a vertical rotating spit). This dish is thought to have ties to numerous Lebonese immigrants that came to Mexico in the last 2 centuries. It is like a Mexican version of Shwarma.Guanajuato stacks pork and onions onto the trompo and tops it off with pineapple. As the meat slowly cooks, it is marinated by the pineapple juice flowing from the top throughout the pork below. Shave it off the spit, slap it into a corn tortilla and top with cilantro and raw onion. Don’t forget the tortas (Mexican sandwich) and the lengua (beef tongue) tacos. Saturdays and Sundays can be wasted away eating their carnitas, also.
