The name says it all !. Julia’s Homestyle American and Caribbean Food serves just that : homemade quality food. Huge portions of good tasting made from scratch main courses, sides, and desserts. My wife and I arrived around 4 p.m. and spent about an hour conversating with Ms. Julia, who is a warm hearted and welcoming lady, on the outdoor patio as she fried fish. We talked home cooking as Julia enthusiastically shared her passion. We ordered a Catfish Dinner: 2 huge, delicious fillets deep fried with a light cornmeal breading. The fish was perfect: light and flakey flesh with a light. crunchy, ungreasy coating. Sides of collard greens and macaroni and cheese were tasty and the roll was warm, soft and delicious. We sampled the candied yams { soft and smooth with an outrageous brown sugar and butter sauce. YUM ! } and the mashed potatoes { light and smooth. Real potatoes with no lumps! }Make it a point to visit here for really satisfying food soon!We will definitely be back.
Keep on moving. Went to this place about 45 days after she opened up. The food was not good. Mac and cheese had absolutely no taste at all. The yams were hard and had strains in them still. The pork chops were cooked fresh and we had to wait which was fine. I thought oh yeah, they are fresh for sure they would be good. No way they were horrible. The flour didn’t stick to the pork chops and they were really large. Save your time and money and don’t eat here. If the regular soul food was horrible, can’t imagine what the Caribbean would be like.
