Kilroys is it policy to racially discriminate against your patrons? My family decided to go to Kilroys for a quick dinner before heading out downtown. We arrived around 9pm and waited for a table to clear to sit down. Once seated, my cousin (first time patron of Kilroys) asked about the menu because the waitress said some items were not available due to the time. The waitress responded with a laugh and said, Im not going to read the menu to you doe doe. The guys decided to ignore it and so did we but little did we know this was going to be a downward spiral. Now its time to order (everyone loves your bread sticks). A member of your well-trained staff told us that we had to pay BEFORE the order could be placed. I reassured the waitress that we were dining in. She said, Its a Kilroys policy to pay for your food in advance. I informed the waitress that I have patronized Kilroys many times with larger groups and had never heard of this policy. This made us very upset so we asked to see this pay before you place an order policy in writing. The waitress said she had been working there 5 years and it had always been the policy; to which I informed her that was untrue or had never been enforced the 20+ times Id visited the restaurant. As a group, we were stunned, but we continued to laugh while the waitress retrieved the policy. Next the manager comes to our table and very rudely says there is nothing in writing and that it is at their discretion (basically, its only enforced for your African American patrons). I decided not to order but stayed because the rest of my party wanted to eat. They ordered and paid in advance. Upon receiving their food, the nachos that my nephew ordered were subpar. Hed ordered two different meals because the nachos were inadequate. If youre going to make us pay, then our food should be perfect, right? Wrong!! We called for the manager; she came 15 minutes later with an attitude as if we didnt pay for our food first!! Your manager blatantly refused to replace or refund the nachos saying we were just being difficult. Difficult is knowing that youre being discriminated against and still agreeing to pay for your meal before youre allow to order. The manager began recalling our encounter since we arrived. My cousin interrupted her and gave her our account of everything that had happened since we arrived. He explained how the waitress had called him a doe doe and that the group that was sitting at the table before us had not been forced to prepay for their meal; we watched them pay before they left. Additionally, the group that sat at the table didnt look like us. I told the manager that she was rude and that her response to our concerns as customers that already paid was unacceptable and that we needed her name. Your manager Jordan should be retrained and then relieved of her duties. My other cousin asked for her last name and she rudely said there is only one Jordan that works there and that she was not giving her last name and that we could leave if we were unsatisfied. Does she have a last name on file or is that also policy to refuse information to customers that have already paid? Jordan decided to take it further and told security, Get them out of here! During an intense time when law enforcement and the African American community are trying to build trust we were told to Get out!! A security officer ran outside and got multiple IMPD officers that were sitting outside to come in while another security guard came over and tried to take our PREPAID food from the table.Another security guard who saw the incident apologized for what was happening to us and two male IMPD officers came over to our table. One of the male officers asked us to please leave then told us to call and make a complaint about what happened to corporate. My husband began talking to the male officer and the male officer was listening and having a conversation with my husband when the female officer steps up and yells in my husband face, GET OUT! At this point the whole situation blows up. The male officer asks us to leave again and to make sure we contact management. We agreed to leave, but we wanted our food that was paid in advance. After 5 more minutes we were given to-go boxes and we left. After being discriminated against; being insulted, receiving poor service, and having the police summoned on us because we were African American!I would also need to reiterate that the group of 12 Caucasian Americans who were sitting at the table prior to us were not forced to prepay nor were they insulted. Is it a written Kilroy policy to treat your Caucasian American patrons better than your African American patrons? Is it a written Kilroy policy to make your African American customers prepay for terrible customer service? I did call Kilroys management and I was stone walled again.May you someone from Kilroys downtown will see this and provide my family and I with a public response. I refuse to patronize a place that has different rules based on the color of the patrons skin. I know you guys have been accused to discrimination in the past, but I never thought it would happen to my family. Im extremely disappointed and I hope your organization makes the necessary changes and implements some diversity training. Additionally, your nachos need a little help as well.IMPD, there is absolutely no accountability within your organization. A public servant should have not treated us like that. Its pointless, to file a complaint because we know it will fall on deaf ears.
My husband and I loved Kilroy’s and will certainly go back next time we are in town. We were in town for a long weekend and basketball game. We wandered around town in the cold and stumbled across Kilroy’s. We ended up having a blast and came back the next day too. It’s a great sports bar and we loved just hanging out at the bar and watching games. We also met some characters too!!The bar staff was great and we enjoyed getting to know them. They have a large wall with all sorts of long island tea type drinks you can order. The food was great (great for bar food) and the drinks were cold. I don’t normally order salads at sports bar but I had already had a few fried items earlier in the day the day and felt like I needed something green. I had a salad and it was good (as far as salads go). My husband ordered some tater tots and they were fabulous!! I can’t resist tater tots when I see them on the menu. Their menu has many items to choose from! Everything I saw come out looked really good. We look forward to returning here and trying some more items. It was fun!
Good place you might not think of to grab lunch during the work week. They have a variety of wraps, salads, sandwiches, etc. that are reasonably priced and large portions. The side of tator tots I got with a wrap covered most of the plate. And of course, try the stuffed breadsticks !
