Decent but nothing exceptional. Honestly the chicken won’t be the best you’ve had, KFC is in the same ballpark. It does have a nice atmosphere though and you are supporting a local business.
If you’re in the mood for soul food, Maxine’s is the best (and true) place to get it in the city! It’s a simple restaurant with plenty of seating that specializes in Southern classics for every time of the day. Unfortunately when we visited, they were out of their famous cornbread and peach syrup. We waited a little bit for our food, but it came out fresh to order. My father had the smothered chicken, consisting of fried chicken covered in gravy over mashed potatoes. He absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop eating. For our sides, we had collard greens, candied yams, mac and cheese, grits, and fried green tomatoes. The grits were creamy and delicious, the fried green tomatoes were fresh and perfectly crisp, the candied yams were spiced perfectly (and some of the best I’ve ever had, if not the best), the collard greens were okay, and the mac and cheese was decent. We had an incredible amount of food for the price we paid. On top of that, my dad found his favorite new restaurant in the city.
I went to Maxine’s Chicken and Waffle this Sunday and me and my girlfriend we experience not a good experience the catfish was not good and it made both of us feel sick I highly recommend that this place it’s not a good place to eat very disappointed
45 minutes, and still waiting….. We saw the good reviews, and had to give it a try. We arrived at 11:45am on Sunday, and placed our order for a kids meal, 2 Dusty’s Waffles, Chicken and Waffle and a Catfish basket, we finally started to wonder if our order was even placed, after waiting 45 minutes, and seeing 3 tables around us get served before us, even after they were seated after us. I went and spoke to our server who was friendly, but rarely checked on us, and I think it was Maxine about the long wait time. I believe it was Maxine who took 25% off our bill, which was nice. But, after waiting an hour to get served, we almost left… As we waited, we did see a table of 4 get up and leave as they were never even waited on. Food was good, might have been because we were so hungry, but not hot, like it just came out of the kitchen. First impression, poor. Wanted to support the local restaurant, but not this one, probably won’t be back.
Best Food In Indy !. I love the food at Maxines! It is so Delicious! And, they give such generous Portions! I always need a carryout for taking what I was unable to finish. It is my Favorite place to eat out.Good service every time!
GOOD FOOD. My family and I ate here and the food was good the chicken was tasty and not dry. The vegetables were good as well. The only issue we had was the server, We paid with cash and she did not bring back the change She gave me some lame excuse talking about they ran out of change. This has never happen in a restaurant to me It was not allot but something like 90 cents but come on. I can see if it was a few penny’s but if she did this to twenty or thirty customers she would have a nice chunk of money on top of a tip. Overall experience of the food great. I will recommend this place and give it the a REAL DEAL rating
