Stop getting rid of all the dumplings
REALLY great!. Really, really good! Went on a Thurs at 2:00. One of the best lunches I’ve had in Indy! We both ordered the Raven and the beet fries and really enjoyed our meals. Excellent combination of flavors, textures. Nothing overly filling. Prices were very reasonable. Service was great (very friendly woman took our orders, explained things, etc). We enjoyed being able to talk briefly to the chef afterwards. My only suggestion would be to work to get at least one handicapped parking space a bit closer to the entrance, as this is a place that would be easy to take a handicapped person to or somebody needing some assistance. We will be back — frequently!!
So good! We were a but surprised at the plain space but the food was spectacular! The dumplings were wonderful. We’ll be back!
I was really excited to hear that downtown Indianapolis was getting a restaurant with Filipino dishes and Asian sandwhiches. However, the taste was not what I had hoped for. The steamed buns were not what we expected and not good at all. The adobo was extremely salty and nowhere near what adobo should taste like. All the food is overpriced as well. On a brighter note the people we nice, the restaurant was cute, and the turon and cracklings we perfect!
I really enjoyed my experience at Rook. I thought the food was amazing and one of kind. We tried the entire menu. My favorite was the Vietnamese eggplant pancakes and all dumplings. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Portion were a good size.
I’ve tried both the daytime sandwiches and the new dinner menu and have really enjoyed each meal. The noodle dinners are particularly filling.
I really hoped a new chef/menu would make another trip worthwhile. Unfortunately the dinner menu is an attempt at fusion that doesn’t work. The Korean noodles uses what I think is a store bought spicy red bean paste and the same for the cucumber kimchi. The ramen would be much better if it were just a big traditional bowl of noodles w pork slices, egg, etc in a thicker miso broth. Both were overpriced for what you got. I know the space is small which limits the type of food that can be served. Maybe instead of trying to be fusion, it would be better to go back to the basics. Banh mi isn’t a bad concept. I would go for a ramen menu w a few different types of ramen made in a more traditional way instead of contrived fusion combinations. I’m surprised no one has tried opening a ramen shop yet in Indy. Everyone knows ramen, right? Maybe Rook can finally find its niche.
