If you’re a deli lover, you should be here. If not, come here all the same. Fantastic options for breakfast. Some amazing scrambled and sunny side servings. Top of my deli list.

Yes, it’s that amazing. God bless the Jews! I’d say this Reuben beats The Bagel Deli’s. Though both these places are that good. Take out sandwiches or cafeteria style dine in. Not sure how you could pass by those desserts without putting a few on your plate! Haha

One of the three restaurant icons in Indianapolis. The two others are Hollyhock Hill & St. Elmo. Both of these have been reviewed previously. No matter when you go, it’s crowded. Be prepared to wait in a long line. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are fantastic. Portions are huge, service is great, it is the real deal. The Smoked Tongue on Pumpernickel is outa sight! So is the Chopped Liver, the Salami, the Peppered Beef, and the Twisted BLT! The pastrami is the bacon! Not to mention the Cabbage Borstch, the Latke’s (they are HUGE), and the Noodles and Sour Cream. The Fetching Mrs. Rat enjoys the Nova Lox Platter. The cheesecake competes with any you can think of.Yes it is pricey, it always has been. It is worth it.I would put Shapiro’s, Holly Hock Hill, and St. Elmo up against any restaurants in the country. What is great about all three is that they are some of the oldest restaurants in Indy. They were there when Indy was Naptown, there are still here and going strong when Indy is one of the best cities in the U.S.

This place is a bit crowded but if you call in and pick up it goes pretty smooth. The corned beef on Rye was amazing and the strawberry cheese cake was out of this world.

Delicious food. Some of the best. But it’s too expensive to visit very often. $23 today for sandwich, soup, deviled egg and water to drink. But worth a visit on special occasions.

I really liked the feel of this place. Cafeteria style dining room. Loved the sandwiches (Pastrami and Peppered Beef on Rye) didn’t love the price. I understand they put a lot of tender loving care into their meat and bread but the price would limit my visits. Fantastic food though in a great location.

Shapiro’s is not as the Jewish and Italian delis of New York and Boston. That being said, Shapiro’s makes a pretty good sandwich. The cuts of meat are plentiful and the sides are good as well. It is worth the trip downtown to experience this place.
