Great walleye! Plus over 30 craft beers by the bottle or on tap. Nice find just north of downtown Indy!

Great dining experience. Our dining experience was solid from beginning to end. We were greeted by a very nice server who explained some wines choices for me and craft beer options for my husband. The restaurant will let you taste the wine before you pay for a $7-10 glass which I always appreciate. My hubby ordered the fish tacos which were cooked just right, not overcooked, and has some nice crunchy slaw and other items to put on the tacos. I ordered the trout, which is a full plate dish. Very generous serving, cooked perfectly, a bit salty because of the olive and anchovies….I could probably do without one of those in the dish. The restaurant has a relaxed feel with some energy to it but not so loud you can’t have a conversation. We really enjoyed our dinner and the prices are reasonable for high quality food.

The walleye tacos were the worst thing I’ve ever had there. The food is pretty good generally, but I’ve had my share of fish tacos and these were by far the worst. The jerk rub was overpowered by a slaw (lettuce soaked in balsamic vinegar). There were also pickles soaked in the same vinegar in the side. Just way too much vinegar. I regret eating it so I hope this review helps to improve the recipe because I see potential in the dish. 🙂

Goodness. I ate at Shoefly Public House on a Tuesday which proved a good time for a quiet get together. The chocolate egg cream was good and lived up to my hopes after hearing about them in old movies. The best thing ever came next — duck wings! Three with chimchuri and three with spicey Aisian sauce. These duck legs were dreamy, good heat, and meaty. We also had the hummus which came on a huge cracker plate. I ordered the buffalo blue burger made with bison. It was perfectly med rare. I was turned off by the bun which made eating the sandwich difficult. The Shoefly pie was a diabetic’s blessing/curse as it was really sweet but also difficult not to stop eating.

Good food, bad neighborhood. My husband works at Ivy Tech’s downtown campus, and after he finished up one Saturday, we decided to try Shoefly. Our food and dining experience were very good. We tried the duck wings to start, and they were rich (as duck is) and little messy but tasty. We both had the arugula salad, and it was excellent. Fantastic combination of flavors. We then both had a burger: I had the NY burger and he had the lamb. Both featured well-chosen toppings and were prepared to our specifications (medium rare). The buns were especially good–very chewy, like a pretzel bun. Service was a bit too fast. We were both still finishing plates when the next thing came out, and we’re not especially slow eaters. But that was not too big of a deal. So here’s the bad part: when we walked out to the restaurant’s parking lot to our car, we had a smashed rear glass and my bookbag was gone. I know, I know: I shouldn’t have left my bookbag in the car. But, according to the kitchen staff who were out in the parking lot at my car before I was, this happens somewhat regularly. There are no cameras in the parking lot, nor a heads up via signage. Final call: good food, bad neighborhood. Be sure to leave nothing (at least nothing visible) in your car if you decide to try it.

Not sure if the host with the long beard is the manager or owner. If he’s the owner he needs to stay in the kitchen out of site while open for business. He was rude and stood at the end of the bar with an unbelievable anxiety level peering over the guest tables in the bar our entire meal. At one point we had moved two tables together in the bar for some more table space and the guy came over and told us each table was for 2… The bar area was entirely empty. Moving along the food was unique, but just ok. Nothing spectacular. Our server was prompt and did a good job.Overall our experience was ruined by the odd host with the long beard and we will likely not be returning to this establishment.
