Great food, strong drinks, basically what you’d want in a bar. The menu puts a spin on classic American dishes, and it doesn’t disappoint. Probably what most would call a hipster bar. Unique people in a unique environment. Easy to spend a lot- not a place to go if you’re on a right budget.
Serves everyone in the face of adversity. In the face of SB101, this business took a stand to ensure the public that they serve EVERYONE! Businesses like this make me proud to be a Hoosier (even if I live in California, now!). Thank you! 🙂
Cool place… if you are not in a hurry. So visited Thunderbird for first time after hearing all the hype, and hear is what I learned. It’s a great setup with really good drinks but you will wait a long while for your food. Place is seriously understaffed on weekend night I came… and a bit snooty to boot. Still, will come again.
Disappointed / Needed More Wait Staff. Went Sunday 9-7. Arrived around 6:30. Not all tables were full. We sat at a booth and waited for about 10-15 minutes without any acknowledgement from any waitress (there appeared to be only one, with bartenders also serving tables). Flagged down a waitress who brought us menus. Then another delay until we got water and ordered. She was primarily busy tending bar. While she was very friendly, she was not as adept at explaining drinks as she likely should have been. They had no soda drinks. No 7 up or Gingerale. They were out of the ginger liquor they use in certain drinks. Bartender/waitress didn’t seem to know what would be an interesting option for somebody who drank Seagrams/7. Food was served relatively promptly after ordering. It was adequate, nothing special. Hamburger had two thick small patties stacked on top of each other. While it was cooked well, it was harder to eat. My friend’s salad was initially served without the dressing on it or on the side. When she asked waitress, it was brought to table fairly quickly. Live band performing was good. Atmosphere was interesting. Another delay in bringing checks. Flagged down another waitress and asked her to tell gal who served us that we were ready. We waited about 10 minutes and nothing. Had to get up and go to the bar and say we were ready for check (she evidently did not get message from her co-worker). Overall, this place had promise, but bar staff should not be asked to wait tables (it was not her fault, so she was tipped well) and should be a bit better equipped to give drink recommendations. We likely will not rush back, if we return at all.
A gem. My wife and I decided to head to Fountain Square for drinks and dinner last night and I’ve heard great things about this place. I wasn’t disappointed. Great room finished out with reclaimed wood. Very inviting and warm. The play off of the history of the place is tastefully done and when combined with their rockabilly/old school honkytonk play list, creates a welcome escape. The selection of spirits is impressive and they take pride in their very reasonably price cocktails. Great selection of local taps rounds out a great bar menu. The menu is very limited, I feel playing off of their bar with food concept. When I see a limited menu, I get excited. So, when a place lays out a 15 item menu and it’s bad, it’s a terrible disappointment. The Thunderbird menu delivered. There is a lot of love on the plate. Food is simple in concept but everything reeks of Southern goodness and comfort. It’s done with with quality ingredients and it’s executed. Delicious, comfortable and priced right in an atmosphere that makes me think of Broad Street in Nashville. A great addition to the amazing transformation of Fountain Square.
Great Drinks!. We went here Saturday evening for a late dinner, and drinks. I had to talk to the waitress about what I wanted to order – everything had meat, and the salads had very little protein. They were accommodating; and explained they are working on the menu. I would love it if they had at least a couple of offerings for vegetarians! I did try the hush-puppies and thought they were fabulous – spicy, but good flavor and the sauce was also great. The cocktails we ordered were made well and the service was efficient and polite.
