I’m always on the hunt for that perfect burger and I was excited after hearing good things about this place. However, I can say the hunt is not over and you won’t find that holy grail of a burger here. First of all the restaurant is pretty run down and not the best atmosphere. The burger, however, is about as memorable and as good as Steak n Shake. Ultimately very unforgettable and not something to go out of your way for.

Always wanted to try this place. Looks are deceiving with this Indy legend. Enjoyed a huge 32oz Budweiser and their infamous Double Cheeseburger with a side of homemade onion rings. I was not disappointed. I wish this was in my neighborhood. Homemade food, great price, cold beer and good conversation.

Great lunch. My wife and I stopped in for lunch after an appointment at the VA Hospital. The ad said best burgers and they are correct. We both loved it and will be back often.

Good food and service, and not such a dive after all!. Valentine’s Day is as good a day as any to treat your girlfriend to a cheeseburger, right? Mr. Romance took me to Working Man’s Friend for lunch, and it was very good. Descriptions call it a dive – but it is a bright, airy room that throws back to your good old bar with food. One waitress handled the whole room (amazing!!) and was really friendly as she explained (probably for the 50th time today to newbies) how the place works. Menu on the board over the bar, cash only. We ordered the (famous) Double Cheeseburger and onion rings. Real meat, smashed on the grill for a nice crunch around the edges. Onion rings battered and light. Cokes in can with the glass of ice. NO SMOKING – which is surprising for a place that is a bar that serves food. The bar is fun – full length of the room, glass block base that glows with red lights. Big open space, fun to watch the people – all kinds of people. The menu has enough items (including chili, shrimp, chicken) that we would come back to try something else. Easy to find from downtown Indy (we actually drove an hour from the eastern border of Indiana, going through downtown for stops first), easy to get back to 70 or 40. We recommend Working Man’s Friend for a nice, easy and delicious burger experience! Mr. Romance gets a thumbs up!

OK, the place is a dive. Get past that and this is hand down, the best burger in the city.
