When I lived in Lawrence, Fort Harrison was still an active Army fort. In the 28 years since, it has transformed into a nice Indiana State Park and an eclectic blend of shops, apartments, and restaurants. One of the eclectic places is Cafe Audrey at the Fort. A two-room restaurant, with great food, great service, and great coffee.I left the fetching Mrs. Rat in Ohio and ventured west to my roots, and to hook up with my mom, dad, sister, and brother-in-law for lunch. Cafe Audrey was suggested and I am glad it was. The endless coffee bar was exceptional. There were four coffees, one decaf, one dark roast, one light roast and one medium roast. Since I was returning to Ohio later that afternoon, I sampled (read, consumed) four large mugs, one mug each of light & medium, and two of the dark. Since I was in Indiana, I had to order the pork tenderloin sandwich. Instead of a bun, I had it on marbled rye toast. I was pleased to find that the rye had seeds, you usually don’t find this in marbled rye. Mustard, onion, lettuce and tomato rounded out the sandwich. The house harvest slaw is fantastic, apple vinaigrette dressing, kale, broccoli, red cabbage, brussels sprouts, apples, and dried cranberries make up a fresh and delicious side. The onion rings were good, they were hot and fresh!.Other dishes served and given rave reviews were; Reuben & fries, Deep Fried Fish sandwich, Five Cheese melt, BLT, & BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger. Our server was great. He had a good sense of humor and was able to put up with my 84-year-old parents, and their very old-school ways.I’ve noticed other reviews saying the place is too small, too noisy, lousy service, bland food, etc. I’ve also seen people complain they can’t get a drink there. Too bad, it is a great place for anyone, single, couple, family etc. If you can’t go without a drink at lunch, perhaps you need to cut back. I’m not sure we all were reviewing the same place. I don’t have a negative thing to say about it.
Not what it used to be. We have been eating at Audreys since it opened…the first time. Since the new ownership has taken over, it has not been the same, but we kept going back thinking it would improve. We just left after a 112 hour breakfast/lunch that was less than stellar. Maybe it was just us, because the two couples that sat on each side of us were both seated after us and received and ate their food before we ever receive ours. I did notice that the owner seemed to know them. I am not really sure why a hamburger and a fish taco should take so long. We were literally 5 seconds from walking out when our meal arrived. When it did arrive, it was not good. The fish tacos had no flavor and the shells were just plain corn tortillas that had not been cooked in any way. Just pulled out of the package and slap some fish on them. We did not realize it until we left, but we did not receive chips with the tacos as the menu stated, so we did not receive what we paid for…shame on us. The hamburger was not any better, in fact it was worst. The bun was crusty on top and crumbled when I cut into it. the meat itself tasted funny. Not quite sure what it was I was tasting, but I did not like it. it almost tasted like meatloaf (and not in a good way). The owner did come by once to let us know that the kitchen was running behind because they were training a new cook, but that was to only time she addressed us. I guess you have go be on their preferred diners list for that. As much as I strive to eat at and support local eateries, and was much as it pains me to say, we will not be returning.

Audrey’s is a quaint little joint tucked back in Fort Ben that ever disappoints. I’ve tried just about everything, and especially love Norris’ Breakfast Hash, the breakfast burrito, Huevos Rancheros and the quiche. The place always caters to my kiddo, and the staff is always friendly. Audrey’s is usually my go-to spot when friends come to my part of town for a breakfast visit. All in all, A+.
Simply wonderful!. We live close to this restaurant. The service is just fabulous! They genuinely seem to care about the customers. The 3 meals I have had there were all cooked to perfection, and I did not l.eave hungry! Highly recommend this spot
They could not make a soft boiled egg in thee attempts.
My wife and I wanted to try something new. We had lunch here on Fathers Day. This place is hidden but we saw a full lotgood sign right? We we’re greeted and seated. We received the best service from any restaurant we’ve ever eaten at here. Our server January went above and beyond. My wife and daughter are both vegetarians and she didn’t have any problem getting them something they would enjoy. I had the apple walnut pancakes simply amazing. It’s nice to know good service does exist. If your in a rush I wouldn’t come on the weekend took longer than usual to receive our meal. Overall this place is doing something right.
