Great food and beer!. We became members from a Groupon deal a couple of years ago, and we have continued to eat at the restaurant about once a month since then. Everything I have had here has been pretty good. Love the kraut balls and the fried chicken on Friday nights. The Reuben is great, as are the potato pancakes. My husband loves the wiener schnitzel and sauteed mushrooms. Service is always great. The patio is our favorite because it is so peaceful. Definitely check it out!

What happened???. Our last visit was November. We really really liked the food and waitress and even spent time talking to the chef who talked to all most all the tables. This time the food was fine, but took a long time without the restaurant being busy. We didn’t see the chef so maybe there was trouble in the kitchen.

Enjoyable evening. My husband, daughter and I traveled to Edelweiss to sample some German food. We found out about this restaurant while searching online. When we arrived we were seated quickly and our server took care of our order promptly. The decor was not as German as we thought it would be, but it was cozy and away from the city. We were made to feel welcome by the staff. For an appetizer we ordered the soft pretzel. It was very large, covering the plate, and was served hot. The pretzel tasted more like bread than a pretzel, but was still very good. The mustard served with it hit the spot, but I could have done without the cheese sauce. We enjoyed our pretzel with our choices of German beer. What we chose came in bottles, but they do have a few on draught. We liked what we ordered, but we will have to come back and sample some others. My husband and I both ordered Sauerbraten. My sides were Spaetzel and Red Cabbage, his were Spaetzel and Sauerkraut. I enjoyed everything served. The Sauerbraten had a really good vinegar flavor that was not overpowering, and the meat was tender. The Spaetzel was so good. I could tell it had been sauteed correctly in butter and was perfectly seasoned. The Red Cabbage had the sweet-sour taste that I like. My husband commented that his Sauerkraut was some of the best he has had. He is PA Dutch, so he is picky in that regard. He liked his Sauerbraten too, although he did say he has had better in PA.Our daughter ordered the chicken fingers and fries from the Children’s menu. I don’t normally write about kid’s meals, but I have to say I was very pleased to find that her meal was made onsite and not frozen food. Too many restauants seem to think kids won’t notice. She loved her meal and wants to go back!To end the meal, my husband ordered the Apple Strudel a la mode. He loved it and I enjoyed the bite I was able to steal. The pastry was light and fluffy with a wonderful filling. If I had to choose one thing I did not like, it would have to be the salad bar. I don’t know why a restaurant serving such great homemade food would choose to serve bagged lettuce with cheese – that was basically it! At least throw in some tomatoes or some other vegetable to help complete it. Overall, we enjoyed our evening and would like to return to Edelweiss in the future.

A pleasant surprise. Tried it with a Groupon and will be back. I found my meal to be more economical and tastier than the Rathskeller. My wife and I both had the Wiener schnitzel. My grandma is Austrian and I visited the country for a month in ’99. This schnitzel was on par with every authentic schnitzel I’ve ever had. The German potato salad and spaetzle were great as well. Not a perfect experience, as the service was a tad slow and they forgot to bring out our fried mushrooms appetizer.

Terrible food. I just had to post my horrible experience. Took my brother and sister in law for dinner and we had a terrible meal and even tho the place was not busy the food was cold and not good at all. I am surprised by the good reviews because this place should have closed years ago,

We love Edelweiss! The food is amazing, the service is fantastic, and Phillip the Harpist plays Led Zepplin on the Harp. Really – what more could you want? The food is rustic and filling. It is amazing how good fresh German food is! Friend them on Facebook – you will drool at the menu posts!

Good Food, Great Atmosphere. I’ve had authentic Wiener Schnitzel, and what Edelweiss serves is even better. It tastes just like what you’d expect, but the portions are large and filling. For appetizers, I recommend the fried mushrooms. They truly are delicious. For the sides, almost everything goes with Pommes Frites. For a taste and an experience that cannot be beat, come down to Indy’s south side. You won’t regret it!
