We checked this place out recently and were very pleased with it. It was busy, so we were able to eat on the patio. The patio has a nice view of the surrounding park and it is a good view. I wanted wiener schnitzel and this is the only place in Indy to serve it. The schnitzel was decent, a little small for the price, and the sides were delicious. I really like German food. While this is not as good as some other German restaurants in Indiana, it is still pretty good and worth checking out.

Disappointed…but a silver lining. So….maybe I should have checked around since they do not offer the giant pretzels, and instead just look like your ball park frozen pretzels. They also don’t make any distinction on the menu. The pork schnitzel sandwich was surprisingly good after my expectations had been lowered. I also enjoyed the stewed apples.I’d say unless you particularly enjoy German food stay away. They were okay. Expensive for nonmembers. Don’t bother.

Best in Indy. The food her is wonderful, and the beer selection is very good. They only have a few on tap, but they have a wide variety in bottles. The pretzels are as big as your head and the mustard is really good. It is hard to say what my favorite menu item is, because are all so good. I would have to say it is a tie between the jagerschnitzel and the schwenkbrauten. The Wednesday night buffet is the night I like to go because it gives me a chance to try different items, everything has been good. The sausages were very tasty and came from Claus’s German butcher shop in Fountain Square, talk about fresh and local. You can tell the food is made fresh, not frozen or from a can. The restaurant is small and in the downstairs of the German American Klub and has a nice, cozy, homey feel. The staff is nice and attentive and the members are very friendly, this is a private club, but well worth the membership. There was an older female patron who had long, white hair, who was a charter member. She was very friendly and talkative, and who was an encyclopedia of knowledge about the history of the club and the park. It was very interesting and informative talking with her. This place is definitely worth the trip to the southside and I try to go there as much as possible. They also host the best Oktoberfest in Indiana in the end of September, so be sure to check that out.
