Really enjoyed it – we had great service, very nice atmosphere (not crowded, nice and low-key – went on a Thursday evening around 6:30). I’m a vegetarian and had a veggie burger (the fries were great), and cauliflower grits as a side. My partner had catfish on Texas toast and slaw. He subbed out fries for baked beans with chorizo. He loved it all. We split an appetizer of fried portobello mushrooms (great smoky dipping sauce). We also each enjoyed a great bourbon cocktail. Overall great experience.
My family and I had dinner at Gospel Bird tonight because we wanted to try something new. We called ahead and were seated pretty quickly when we arrived. The atmosphere was really nice, but we decided to sit outside because of the beautiful evening. Things seemed to be going well, so we thought. That was until it took about an hour to get our food. We had to ask for utensils and napkins, which took several minutes. My son and I had the southern fried chicken which looked amazing, the only problem was that the batter was so thick, the batter wasn’t cooked all the way. I will say the honey hot sauce was really good. My oldest daughter had the brisket burger and it was decent, the fry’s were good. My youngest daughter had the yard bird sandwich and said it was good. My wife had the chicken cordon blue, but was disappointed. We might consider giving them another try, but the first impression did not live up to expectations.
Great new place. Fried Green Tomatoes were awesome and the Yardbird sandwich was huge and delicious. The atmosphere was nice but they could benefit from something to break up the sound in the main room. It was ptetty noisy.Perfect fried chicken, though.Updated. We’ve been back twice since. Food remains awesome and the atmosphere is really chill. Will happily add it to the list of great New Albany date night spots. Updated again: Gospel Bird has become a date night staple. The bar almost always has a couple of seats open and the service has been great every time.
