Great Local Restaurant!. Backstage Grill is a great local restaurant in South Bend! I love their burgers and sandwiches! The staff is really nice and the food comes quick! It’s cool that you can see the cooks preparing the food next to you in the kitchen. I love restaurants that have daily specials, and Backstage Grill is known for this. They post daily specials on their Facebook page which makes it really convenient.

Tasty Hidden Treasure. I really enjoy dining at the Backstage Grill for lunch. They are within walking distance of my work so it is a nice and convenient place to eat! My favorite menu items are the burgers and calzones, however I have tried almost everything on the menu and have not had one item that tasted poorly. Those who complained about the wait for their food must have visited Backstage on a bad day because I have always been able to order, finish my meal, and pay with plenty of time to spare during my half hour lunch break. The servers are very friendly and quick here, and appear to have memorized not only my beverage preference but also what other regulars like to drink. Their soups are made from scratch, and the corn chowder is one of the best soups I have ever had. I also am a sucker for their french fries and potato chips because they are fresh cut, made to order and I can definitely taste the difference between theirs and frozen fries that some competitors use. For those of you who are short on time, Backstage offers call ahead ordering which some of my coworkers have used several times, as well as carry out. It’s really too bad that Backstage isn’t busier than it is because it offers the full dining experience with great prices especially their 1/4lb cheeseburger deal that comes with fries, and a drink for only $4.95 That’s cheaper than McDonalds!

UPDATE: Main course came out wrong but was not about to wait longer food is okay but not worth the wait… Server was nice enough but never got an explanation for the wait. The table next to us had a similar experience and left without change because they were tired of waiting.04 Feb, 2012Sitting here at backstage grill for an hour and a half had our appetizer 45 minutes ago but still waiting on the main course. Quite literally the slowest restraunt I’ve ever been to and it’s not even busy will never be back and will not recommend to anyone.

Only go if you plan on just going to the bar! The food is horrible, under-cooked, and tasteless, the experience was horrible! The staff was kind and seemed like all they ever serve is alcohol.

A Favorite Lunchtime Standby. This is my version of Cheers, but instead of it being an after work watering hole, the Backstage grill is a a regular lunch haunt. Whether I am in a hurry or want to take it easy, I know I can walk in and Tina, one of the great and friendly waitresses (I never caught the name of the other one) will take good care of me. She will have my diet coke ready before I can even sit down at the table. The lunch specials are fabulous. The first time I went I was sure there was a mistake on my bill. Soup, 1/2 sandwich, and a diet coke all for only $3.99! Wow. What a deal – that’s 1990’s prices. Then there are there other lunch specials 1-topping calzone and salad (or fries – if you must) and a drink, or a burger, fries and a drink for $5.95. I could go on, but I wont. They have several other lunch specials. Fresh and fast food. Add this to your list of places to go when you want to get away from your desk and you forgot or did not have time to pack a lunch.
