THE OMELETS ARE ON POINT HERE! I LIKE THE PUERTO RICAN – AMERICAN FUSION THING THAT GOT GOING ON THERE. LOOKING FORWARD TO RETURNING AND TRYING SOMETHING NEW.
The food was fantastic – the andouille sausage burrito, eggs, and bistro chips were all delicious. Everything was priced very, very well, too – 8 for a breakfast burrito and 5 for bacon, eggs, and toast. The coffee was delicious. The service staff does need a bit more training, I think, and we were not attended to very often even though the restaurant wasn’t too busy. We never received the sauces we requested, I had to go hunt down salt and pepper at a service station myself, and our waitresses simply weren’t all that friendly. I very much appreciated Javier coming out from the kitchen to wish me a happy Father’s Day, though, and I hope the restaurant clears up some of the service issues so that it succeeds in our neighborhood.
So I stopped in for lunch. Rather authentic retro diner without the flare and glare ambiance. Waitress was super awesome friendly professional, great service. As it was my first time, she recommended the steak sandwich, a signature menu item. It was mediocre… Good tender bias cuts of marinated steak, good flavor, but just not enough for the price. 5 pieces, 5 bite size pieces of meat on a roll with huge chunks of chopped head lettuce, sauces marinated onions and mushrooms and some special sauce. But it was messy, just sloppy. Fell apart, dropped apart, not a good eat. And it was tiny. Imagine a double sized dinner roll split and stuffed with too big lettuce core chunks, drizzled with special sauce, saucey marinated mushrooms and onions, and 5 wafers of meat. A tiny mess. House chips were excellent. I’ll go back but to try other menu items!
The Best!. The breakfast sandwiches are awesome! I also love the gourmet chutney chicken (chicken salad) sandwich for lunch, and the reuben is better than my own mother’s! The staff is always friendly and courteous, and Javier himself is a wonderful person. Javier’s is one of the best in South Bend. I recommend it to everyone all the time!
Javier’s is clearly the best place in town for breakfast- taco meat veggie skillet with bistro sauce in the side- yes please! Throw in some TJ’s Roasted coffee and a side of fruit, and I’m a happy girl. And you cannot beat the price!!! Come one and come all- lunch and dinner are spectacular too!!
Great Quality. I have taken my family here 3 times and each time the quality of food has been excellent. You can clearly see that Chef Javier Sr. cares about what leaves his kitchen and his staff are very helpful. There is nothing on the south side of the city that compares, in my opinion, to the quality of food you can get from this locally owned establishment. Beyond that, the food is NOT overpriced. 5 stars.
