  Never will we eat there again. The service was horrible, the food cold and tastless. The manager never showed their face to say they were sorry. After 1 bite of prime rib, sent it back and told them to take it off the bill. My husband did not want it. When the bill came we had to remind them that they had not taken off the prime rib dinner which was $25.00. After waiting for 45 minutes for our credit card to come back with the bill, we had misc. charges added to the bill which added up to a whopping $10.00 amount. Dishonest people work there.

  Horrible Horrible service!!. One of the things I love to doing is trying new restaurants within the South Bend and Mishawaka area with my family. They were not particularly busy on this day so it was very odd to me after seeing so much available seating to be placed in a area right by the kitchen window. I even asked our hostess before being seated if we could sit somewhere else however she told me that all the tables had a similar enclosed style. Cleary this was not at all my concern!! Upon meeting our waitress she wasn’t blatantly rude however she was not friendly to us either. Her energy was very rushed as if we were an inconvenience and this fact became very obvious when customers were sat next to us. To hear the clear and stark distinction in the treatment between us and this other table was very infuriating at this point unbearable and suffocating!! I really hate to use the race card however in this situation it is spot on!! You genuinely feel like you have stepped back in time in the deep south and went into the wrong place! I paid for all the food that we had eaten at that point which consists of mainly appetizers but I was sooo ready to leave at that point I didn’t even finish my long island, which I must say was wonderful. However our entrees that had not come out yet I didn’t even want anymore I had lost my entire appetite all I wanted to do was leave as soon as possible and forget this horrible horrible experience! Needless to say this was my very first and absolute last experience at maxies barn! Food For Thought?? Id be curious to know if this was an isolated incident or if this is a typical experience for patrons of color?

  Great Food. I enjoyed the service and food. I was disappointed they didn’t have steak for 2 but we ordered something else and were pleased with it.

  Terrible. When we arrived the hostess treated us like dirt, and when we finally were seated the waitress treated us as though we were an afterthought…barely coming to a stop as she passed the table. She was not busy, and was very brusque and acted as though, for some reason, we didnt belong in the restaurant. The decor was hilarious….right out of the 70s.The food was mediocre to horrible, with the exception of my steak which was well seasoned, grilled correctly, and was good quality.I would never go back, the service was that bad and unfriendly.

  Great every time. I have been eating at Maxi’s since I moved to south bend 20 years ago. I usally get chicken fingers but the steak and ribs rival any place in town. Everything is very fresh. The thing that really sets it apart is the family run atmosphere. My family would go there every week friday night and after awhile our menu choices and preferences were remembered. You just don’t get that kind of service anywhere else. It really is one of my favorites.
