Pretty good…. In my opinion, J. Gumbo’s is not truly authentic cajun cuisine. It is, however, very tasty, especially their ratatouille. That is a SUPERB choice for vegetarians (like me!) or anyone wanting to have a large bowl of food, but also following a diet. They have sizable portions, they’re a little pricey, but it’s overall tasty and the staff is helpful and friendly. Most notably, though, is the owner. His charisma practically runs the place all on its own!
Large Servings – Fresh. I cannot say whether this is authentic cajun food – nothing to compare it to. I can tell you that the portions are generous and the food is fresh. I love the bumblebee stew. Nice change of pace for a quick meal without the fast food grease etc.
Nothing special here. Sweet and mild red beans and sausage means zero flavor of any kind. Really wish Yats would venture over from Indianapolis to show J Gumbos how it’s done.
Drunkin’ Chicken. I have dreams about this food daily! Large bowl, drink, and bread for like 8 bucks! Lots of food and it is all delicious!
Not Really Cajun, but GOOD!. Ate here today for the first time. The food is EXCELLENT! We both had the Jean Lafitte Poboy and wow it was good. The food bears little resemblance to any authentic or traditional Cajun food that Ive ever had (and Ive had plenty; my mother was born and grew up in Cajun country and I have eaten my way across southern Louisiana more times than I can count). But it is good, just dont come expecting what you get in NOLA. Service was very friendly, very fast, and the food was reasonably priced. Well definitely be back.
Favorite Dish. One should get the Jean Lafyete and and craw-fish or shrimp to it. It is just amazing!29 Jul, 2012A tasteful experience. I highly recommend J. Gumbo’s for all those who like spicy food. They have a wide variety of Cajun dishes, that actually can be customized to customer’s liking.
Good Food!. I have been several times now and have tried almost every item on the menu and everything has been excellent! Good place for Lunch! Fast friendly service!
