My husband and I each tried a half sandwich and soup. The sandwiches were ok. The soups were terrible. Both tasted like they were from a bag or box. I had the butternut squash and apple soup. It tasted like a really bad cream of chicken. Husband had the chicken and dumpling, which, unfortunately , tasted like canned shrimp. Potato salad was obviously dished out of a premade tub. Service was slow, though the staff was very friendly. I left wanting some real food.

Great place for a nice dessert and coffee after eating dinner in downtown Valpo.

Chocolate Heaven. The South Bend Chocolate Cafe by no means has an expansive menu but what they do serve is well prepared and tasty. The place is spotlessly clean and for a chocolate lover, a sight to behold. They have about six types of coffee–all of them pretty good–that are available each day. One really cool feature is the private room which can be reserved for meetings and such. They don’t charge for it (at least they didn’t the last time our company used it) so all you have to do is call in and its yours. Being across the street from the courthouse, this place runs amok with attorneys so if you did just happen to slip and fall, you’d have about a dozen business cards from lawyers in your hand before you even hit the ground. The desserts are fairly decadent and the sandwiches and soups hit the spot. The people are friendly and efficient. Now, on to the chocolate. Expensive but good. Enough said.
