A few friends of mine that I drill with in the Army Guard come here every time we’re in town. The food and atmosphere are amazing. Wait staff is also amazing. Lately we’ve been having the same waitress and she’s phenomenal. Don’t know her name though. Highly recommend the Sportsman Inn!
Had an early Saturday dinner here recently. I was thrilled at the accommodation for handicap parking and there’s even a ramp to the front door.Went inside to find a basically empty dining room. The hostess was busy shuffling papers, but finally looked up so I began to speak. She lowered her head again, murmured something about needing to find a server, and vanished for 2-3 minutes, leaving us standing in a busy staff traffic area. Another employee approached and asked if we were being helped; when I answered no, she appeared baffled. At that point the original person returned and proceeded to seat us. I find all this noteworthy because the restaurant had been open for business for 5 hours that day before we arrived.Appetizers were hot and tasty, and after seeing the bum’s rush being put on the group at the next table by their server, I asked ours for a slow and leisurely progression with the meal. Salads were good but dressing was scarce.Then the pace accelerated again and dinner was hot on the heels of our salad course. I ordered the fried haddock; pieces were large, moist, and nicely cooked. We had been told upon ordering the list of dinner sides that are unavailable to early diners; things like baked white or sweet potatoes, among others. Thou shalt not make substitutions or ask for anything that would require an up charge, as was explained by the servers. Therefore, one must accept as a side a vegetable medley, which appeared to be canned green beans mixed with over cooked fresh zucchini.Dinner roll – 1 to a plate – is more like a child’s EZ Bake Oven item.Yes, the fish, onion rings and appetizer were tasty, but one felt a stinginess overall. Would I go back? Maybe to sit on the lakeside deck and spend a leisurely afternoon munching appetizers and enjoying a beverage.

Bad Management & Service. The Sportsman Inn has good food and views. However, they have poor management and as a result, lackluster service. I doubt I will return anytime soon.
The food is blah. Nothing special. The fried chicken is fine, fries are good. The rueben was so tough and stringy I couldn’t take more than one bite. The waitress never asked why I didn’t eat my food. Typically a good server will inquire as to why the entree was left uneaten. In all the experience was mediocre.
Don’t use for catering!. I recently used the Sportsman to cater for a dance and had such a difficult time working with the manager. On the phone he had told me to send a check for the deposit before the dance and that he would send me the bill with gratuity and tax after the dance. However the night of the dance after it was over, he demanded full payment of almost $1000 before we could leave to go home which I had to put on my credit card last minute because we had no other way to pay it. He claimed that it was written on the contract and that he had told me on the phone but the contract did not tell me what the full amount would be with those added in to it so I had no way of knowing how much the bill would be. I will NEVER use this company again.
This place is terrible! Bad food, many mistakes, worse service. Got my order wrong and sent something I told the waitress I am allergic to on my plate. Could have been an honest mix up, but my boyfriends food came out cold. They warmed up his food in the microwave and then it was rubbery. The manager was rude and unhelpful. With all the good food,in the world, we are not going back to this place!
