Vegan option!!!. It is not widely publicized but they do have a great, home-made vegan option on the menu and a vegan BBQ sauce. The burger takes a bit longer to cook, but is worth the wait. This is a hot spot for meat eaters and it is nice to be able to join them for a full meal instead of just munching on chips. Also, the lemonade is home-made also and worth having, served in a mason jar. A great local choice with a parking lot in campus town (till 2015 at least).
The best BBQ in Ames by far, probably the best in the state. The pork sandwitch is amazing and the Texas toast is very good as well.
Worth finding!. Great sandwiches, lemonade, and spectacular potato salad! I think it’s the best BBQ in Ames. Only downside is they are getting a little too pricey. If the price increase ant more I will have to go back to Hickory Park.
Missing Battles. I have been gone from Ames for almost 18 years. Every Barb-B-Q sandwich I have had since, has been compared to the standard set by Battle’s. A few have come close, but none are the same.
Best BBQ in Ames!. I know Hickory Park gets a lot of attention, but my family loves Battle’s. I always promote it as the best BBQ in Ames. My brother lives in California, but went to ISU and grew up in Ames. Whenever he comes home, he insists that we go to Battles.
Best BBQ around. The standard by which I judge all others.
