I got take out for my dorm floor. I’m unsure about the service because I had the hall treasurer pick up the cupcakes. They have a wide array of flavors, but the cupcakes were dry and not that flavorful, and they felt stale. They were okay overall; people seemed to think they were fine, definitely not worth the price, however. They’re celebrities though because they were on cupcake wars so maybe worth a try.
My husband and I went there for the first time a month ago and were really disappointed in the selection but found some to try. When we tried them, we were also disappointed. The cupcakes were very dry…could tell they were from a mix and had been frozen. Will not be going back.
Wedding Cupcakes. A few months back we tried some of the Cupcake Emporium’s cupcakes at the World Food Festival in the East Village. The chili mango cupcakes were amazing and we were still in the market for a wedding cake, so soon after we sent them an email asking for general information on prices, delivery, etc. About a week later, we called and placed our order; we were told that, because the ceremony was on a Sunday, they would need to deliver the caked on Saturday evening. They would call us back to get the delivery details then. So, Saturday evening came and, when it was getting fairly late and we’d not yet heard anything, we called the shop but they’d already closed. This gave us about three hours the next morning to find a replacement wedding cake. Afterwards, I called a manager to find out what had happened; she spoke with each of the employees but nobody had any recollection of our order so the only record was our initial email conversation. We had the time of the call from our phone’s history, but several people were working at that time. The Cupcake Emporium has great cupcakes, but lost the order for our wedding. A great place for dine-in, but don’t trust them with your special occasion.
Poor quality. We stopped at the Emporium at approximately 2 PM and tried two flavors of cupcake. The first was the Iowa cupcake. First off the texture of the cupcake itself was the same as a store bought mix. The flavor was corn, which was not pleasant in the least. The frosting was over sweet and the item had sat so long that the frosting had crystallized. The second was the Harvest flavor. It was basically a spice cake flavored base and cream cheese frosting. Again, the frosting had crystallized and the texture of the cake was store bought. It literally crumbled once the wrapper came off. The only positive was the little spot of pumpkin pie flavored dollop on the top. The girl at the counter was less than friendly and acted as though it was a chore to even wait on us. My friends and I won’t be back.
Their cupcakes are great and it’s also a great place to eat for lunch. I’ve eaten at numerous cupcake places and these are the tastiest. Truly. Do yourself a favor and give it a shot.
