  This was the absolute worst restaurant I have ever been to! Once we walked into the restaurant, the host sat us down at the grill on a corner. I wasn’t even sitting on the same side of the grill as my boyfriend! After that, the waiter took our drink orders (water). He came back in a few short minutes and took our meal order. We both ordered Filet minion and shrimp ($26.99 each). This place is honestly a joke. The filet minion was the size of a baseball and was really thin. Once it was completely cooked and cut, there were only 8 pieces of the meat and three of them were pure fat! The shrimp was also pretty bad as well. I do not know who peeled them, but they weren’t even all full pieces of shrimp. I had halves, and ones with some of the tail still attached! On top of that all, the shrimp was way over cooked. We were there for maybe an hour, and our drinks were only offered to be refilled once (after I had finished my meal). I would like to say that the chef was okay, but he was not. We could not even understand what he was saying when he would ask everyone questions. I used to work at a Japanese Steakhouse in Illinois as a waitress, and I know most all of the chef’s tricks. This was my boyfriend’s first time ever going to a Japanese Steakhouse. It’s bad when you can teach the chef tricks that are simple and take only a second to do. Of the whole time he was cooking, we had a pathetic onion volcano, he attempted to throw and catch an egg with his spatula, and threw eggs at people’s mouths. I was very unimpressed because he didn’t even do one of his tricks well. You can’t toss egg that is a chunk connected to another chunk and expect someone to catch that. At ALL of the restaurants like this that I have been to, they always gave you the fried rice in a bowl, the option of what sauces, and appropriate portions. This is the first time I have ever walked out of a Japanese Steakhouse still hungry. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant again. This was a complete disappointment. They wouldn’t even allow me to show them a copy of my transcripts and class schedule in place of my ISU student ID. Come on! You graduate and keep your ID card. Showing a current class schedule is more proof of being a student than an ID! They say that if you have your student ID, that they will provide you with 10% off your final check. WRONG!!!! You will only receive 10% off if everyone in your party has their student ID card on them. Overall, if you go to this restaurant, you will not receive prompt service, get what you paid for, or even have the staff be polite to you. I would highly suggest NOT going to this restaurant. There are so many other better restaurants in Ames, Iowa.

  Fun & Delicious. They have a Hibachi grill here, which is where we sat. We all had fun watching the chef prepare our dinner in front of us, and the food was delicious. Would not get the lobster on the hibachi grill, as it seemed overdone and lacking of flavor, but the scallops were perfect. Can’t go wrong with chicken & steak either. It’s right next to the Grand Stay Hotel, which is very convenient – we’d eat here again.
