Coffee is watered down and not good. We tried to give Cafe Diem several chances both in college and out of college. Every experience we have had, both in Ames and Ankeny, has been luke warm, watered-down, diner-type coffee.We drink coffee everyday and love to support any shop that we can….but we have tried too many times at Cafe Diem without success.Both locations have a great atmosphere when you walk inside, and I wish I could love it because it would be a convenient spot for us. Unfortunately we have thrown in the towel because we have yet to receive a good cup of coffee here.
Cafe Diem has a wonderful atmosphere and the baristas are always very sweet and willing to modify your drink. The wonderful selection of music is audible but never blaring (like I’ve noticed in other coffee shops). Reasonably priced with good sandwiches, but the coffee is a bit too sugary. Not to worry, order your drink with half as much syrup and you won’t be disappointed! I come here regularly to get some work done on my laptop and I always find myself enjoying every minute.
Decent Place. I have been a longtime patron of Cafe Diem, coming here on weekends to study while in school for the past 6 years. I had a recent hiatus from my coming and goings to Cafe Diem. I recently ventured back to Cafe Diem the first of February to get bombarded with a multitude of surcharges. I felt as if I was walking into a corporate American coffee shop. Coffee refills, 50 cents, credit card purchases, 33 cents. I suspect next, the internet will have a surcharge associated with it. I have always had a affinity to venture to independently owned shops, but Cafe Diem lost me. This will be my last trip here.
Great location, great place to sit and drink some coffee. The only problem; bad coffee. If they would make a better cup of joe, they’d be the best coffee shop in town.
Great spot for tea in Ankeny. If I need a third party location to meet with a client in Ankeny, I head to Cafe Diem. My regular purchase is a cup of Earl Grey tea and a lemon poppyseed muffin.The wifi is somewhat slow at times, but they have a great atmosphere and the decor is very welcoming. Only complaint is that I wish they were open later. I’ve been kicked out at closing time on numerous occasions.
