Soft Fried Flour Tacos Rock – Thank You Mosqueda Family. I love these tacos. The Mosqueda family started this chain in 1961 using their family recipe. It definitely has a central/southern Mexico influence similar to a chalupa an/or tostada platter. They are soft fluffy and not greasy. You can taste the puffed flour tortilla. They fill it with taco beef. It’s not a skimpy portion. On top of that are flavorful shredded cheese, lettuce and fresh tomato. I really enjoyed these taco’s. Living in Texas I get plenty of Taco options. In the fried flour category, this ranks right up there. The decor is rather simple, but it is nice. The employees are all business. There is very little chit chat or help, but the line out the door necessitates it. Great Tacos!!!
It is fine, the flavors seem developed and balanced, the only concerns-the steak was slightly dry and would have preferred the chicken cooked a little longer. I thought all the staff were fine, and service was relatively fast.
Nice lunch. Went in around 1:30 on my first visit to see what all the fuss is about. Walked right up to the helpful cashier who helped me decide on the original flour taco. I usually go with the vegetarian option, but I had the beef this time. The shell was crisp and tasty, the meat was well seasoned, but slightly greasy, and the veg and cheese were just right. I noticed salsa on some tables, so I asked for some, and I’m glad I did. It was not your usual Iowa tomato sauce with a jalepeno waved over it, but had a nice, fresh spice and a good heat. With a drink, and under $5., I was impressed. Would I make a special trip from Ames? Probably not, but if I’m in the neighborhood I’ll consider it. I liked that the family name is over the door.
What a joke!!!!!. I stopped at the Ankeny Location today at 10:50 intending to beat the lunch rush. I was the first person in the parking lot. not only did they open the doors late, but i was literally almost knocked to the ground by people trying to get in the front of the line to get food. i waited behind 25 people i counted, and when i finally reached the front counter, of course they do not accept american express the only payment method i had on me. worst lunch encounter i have ever had. and to all those crazy tasty taco lunch people there that day, id like to thank you for almost knocking me to the ground. im so glad to see that the people of Ankeny are so civil and kind. What a bunch of spoiled ass holes. Next time i see you in line expect me to trip you asses.
Original Tacos. Their original tacos are what made this place so famous in this area. They are extremely good! Everything else on the menu is fairly average, but nothing like their original flour tacos. 😉
First time trying Tasty Tacos and liked it. The chicken Anchiladas are good!
Tacos are great! Get the flour shell. Enchiladas didn’t look that great. Easily the best quick place to eat in Ankney.
