Excellent pizza!. I was here with the family a couple of weeks ago. The staff was super friendly and the pizza was awesome (if you like wafer-thin crust, which I do)! It was like going back to a pizza place in Germany. We will definitely be back here again soon (and again, and again)! We’ve found a new favorite pizza place in Ankeny!
Really Good Thin Crust Pizza – I love it. Wheel House has been open for a little over a year. After the bowling alley burned down, they reclaimed some of the bowling lanes. This pizzeria and pub used the lanes to make tables and a bar top. In addition to the lanes, they reclaimed some old barn wood from an Urbandale barn. It has been used to decorate the bar. The barn door has the Treslte Bridge north of Ankeny etched into it. Overall, the decor is very cool.The pizza is the best. I can’t speak to the other food they offer, but I can say I would never come without getting the pizza. It’s the whole point of coming here. The crust is hand rolled to cracker thin and then cooked perfectly. Every bite crunches. The toppings are really good. We tried several of the pies. I liked the Taco Pie & Supreme, but the Egg Roll was a hit with the rest of the family. Now the beer. They have plenty of choices. I really like Exile’s Ruthie. It’s very good.We talked to the staff and they said the first two months of opening were rough. That might account for some of the early negative reviews. They have it right now. This place is really good.
I love this place! The wings are my favorite. They aren’t a deep fat fries mess like most others, but rather slow cooked rotisserie style. Excellent!I also really like their Egg Roll and Mediterranean pizza! Best pizza in Ankeny, hands down. Oh yeah, if you like Moscow Mules (cocktail), this is your spot! I posted a pic of the copper cup. It’s massive, and still priced at what others in the area are getting for them.

Love that Ankeny has added a local restaurant! The pizza was delicious and the atmosphere is great. We would definitely go back again!
Pizza was just ok. cooks were swearing as they made the food, we were in 1 of the 4 booths in the back. they screamed order even when waiters were 2 feet away. the gave me no receipt, wrong change, which then the waiter asked me to round up to make the math easier, an literlly everything took forever. i even wrote them privately to completion and they didn’t even respond. not a place for families, and they have horrible staffing/managers. wouldn’t go there again even if it was free.
Good Pizza. I thought the food here was great! I got the Orient pizza, which had a spicy sauce, with peanuts and and asian style sauce drizzled over the top, with crispy chow mien noodles and broccoli on top. Yum! I also tried the carnivore pizza my friend ordered, which was again, quite tasty. The wait for pizza was a bit long, but I am used to this at pizza places where they are cooking to order. Thought the service was average. She kept our sodas and beers filled, which is always a plus. Worth an eat!
