Reminds me of when Chinese places were good….. After trying almost a dozen chinese restaurants in the Greater Cedar Rapids area I honed in carefully on China Inn, one rainy evening a few months back. I order some take out, just plain fried chicken wings and and order of General Tso’s (extra spicy) to go please! Upon arriving home some minutes later, my good friend and I proceeded to eat, but with a key difference, we talked endlessly about the food. If i’ve learned anything, good food has one thing in common: when people sit and eat it, they talk, and have a good time over it. The quiet crispiness of the wings reminded me faintly of the Chinese Restaurants in NY/NJ that would be crammed full of commuters by 3 o’clock desperately hoping they dont run out of egg rolls. The General Tsos wasn’t soggy! Hallelujah! I finally found a Chinese-American food preparer that mastered the simple art of getting the damn chicken into the right amount of sauce quickly enough to avoid it turning to mush in 10 seconds!!!!! I was exstatic as it seems that no other similar themed restaurant in the whole damned state could get it right! The rice was also quality stuff. The right amount of time and the right amount of dedication goes into making good food consistently, and you know its happening at China Inn because the owner of the place is busting his a** in that kitchen 5 days a week. Try it, you’ll enjoy it!!!
I seriously love this Chinese place! Don’t let the outside fool you! The beef and broccoli is so delicious and the lo mein is tasty. Fried rice and sweet n sour chicken is also great. They have 50 cent sodas too which is great because I like buying cans places. Great for cheap, fast Chinese. Pint sizes are plenty for 2 huge servings of your favorites.
