Just visiting the area. Duck with the mole was amazing. Gnocchi with cheese and crab had a familiar aspect to it — like crisp buttered toast + Mac & cheese + New England chowder… Quite delicious.

Special. My most recent stop at Cobble Hill was for a Bloody Mary on a downtown market Saturday. Dinner here is a different experience. Creative. Fresh. Attention to detail. Presentation. I need to find time to get back here for dinner again.

Beautiful and Tasty to boot!. My husband and I ate here to celebrate our anniversary. It was fantastic! Our server was very knowledgeable and prompt with drinks. However, what I must really rave over is the food and the presentation. I had the halibut which was divine. My husband had sausage stuffed chicken, which was also wonderful. I would buy the soup by the quart if I could. Everything was beautifully prepared. For dessert, I had the black and blue and I can honestly say it looked like a work of art. I almost didn’t want to eat it. Almost! It can be a bit pricey, but knowing that we are supporting a local restaurant where the pride and love they have for the food shines through on every plate makes it okay by me. I would highly recommend Cobble Hill and we look forward to going back soon!06 Apr, 2013Not bad for a destination restaurant but needs a few tweaks. First of all, let me start by saying the place is gorgeous. If I had a loft, I would want it to look like this. Great lighting, funky, eclectic pieces. Hostess was very nice. I ordered the beet salad. While it was tasty, it wasn’t worth the $12. price tag. They are beets for crying out loud…you know, a cheap veggie used to sustain starving people. Also, the tarragon mayo that was served with our little pre meal taster would have been a much better schmear than the odd brown paste that was served on the plate, under the beets. The place was not full when we were there and the people that were there were older with that Country Club look about them. That being said, it took over 20 minutes to get our drinks. They were good, but again, overpriced. Being that we were thirsty, we would have sucked it up (and sucked some more down) and ordered another round. However, our waitress never asked if we wanted another drink and our glasses sat, conspicuously empty, on our table all evening. The hubbie had the bacon chicken. I am assuming that this has something to do with the bacon or that it was maybe smoked, but he couldn’t eat it. It was pink. There’s something about a pink chicken that is so unappetizing – i.e. salmonella. My scallops were very good, though the black lentils that were haphazardly thrown on the plate seemed to be an afterthought. Again, overpriced.I realize that Cedar Rapids is lacking in dining establishments such as Cobble Hill and that people go crazy when a new place like this opens. I so want Cobble Hill to succeed. However, if it wants to move beyond the elderly crowd we saw at our dinner, it needs to change a few things. It’s great to be a destination dining spot BUT this place won’t survive if they don’t make a few changes. To be young and hip, or just more appealing to all ages, you either have to a) lower your prices or b) serve more than just 4 scallops and lentils on a plate for almost $30. A nice starter of salad or soup would be helpful. Heck, even some bread. As a middle age couple with two kids, we love getting out and having a night of great dining. We will gladly pay for it, but even then, it is a treat for us to do. However, throw us a bone. Make us want to come back. We’ll gladly support you. But we won’t for fair service, unfilled drinks, overpriced beets, pink chicken, no soup or salad included with the meal, and sloppy plating, and a 20 minute way for dessert. Especially not when this so so experience cost almost $100.NOTE: the owner of the restaurant wrote me an e mail after my review accusing me of trying to undermine their restaurant. instead of apologizing for the issues we encountered, she instead was rude and defensive. i would not recommend cobble hill to anyone at this point. and, unfortunately, if you read the reviewer after me, they had an unacceptable experience as well.

Too long of a wait, too slow of a waitress. We were so looking forward to an elegant experience for dinner in CR which is sorely lacking in high end, quality dining. The ambience was fantastic but we weren’t seated for our 8:30 PM reservation until 9:15 PM. The waitress was obviously overworked, thank goodness we already had a bottle of cabernet as it took her an additional 15 minutes to take our order. The sturgeon was excellent but the steak overcooked and a tough grade of meat. The dessert, Paris Brest, was complimentary due to our wait, however, it was a misguided effort as it was unassuming and forgetful. Hopefully, when the initial fervor of a new restaurant in CR wanes, these issues will be corrected.

Outstanding Food, service & atmosphere. We have eaten at Cobble Hill twice in the past two weeks and could not be happier, it is now our favorite restaurant in Eastern Iowa. We arrived early and had a couple of cocktails while waiting for the rest of our party. Great service at the bar and an good selection of local and other craft brews and liquors. We were seated promptly when our reservation time arrived, and waitstaff was pleasant and attentive. Menu selection consists of several appetizers, several main courses and several desserts. Our large party sampled nearly everything on the menu and everyone was impressed and pleased. Carrie and Andy will take very good care of you…do not wait this is GOOD!
