Their cuban sandwich’s are very good. Thursday’s Cuban style rib’s day. All I can say is get there early if you want some! Very spicy.. generously coated in an habanero mango sauce that will lit your taste buds on fire! (In a good way).
First several times I ate here, I was in heaven! I really really really really loved their food! I always get the ropa vieja with rice and plantains. Delicious!! The ropa vieja was always so tender, aromatic, with perfect balance of acid from the tomatoes. The rice and plaintains were perfect accompaniments too! It has been so great that I have always looked forward to travel to Cedar Rapids more often and never failed, I’ve always found myself here at least once a trip. The only time I had a bad meal in Cedar Rapids were when The Lost Cuban were unexpectedly closed and I had to eat somewhere else.Though today… I was a bit disappointed that my meal wasn’t as stellar as usual. I ordered the ropa vieja for eating there and it took awhile. When it came, they packed it to go. I told them it was fine and opened it up to eat there as I was starving. When I opened it up, the rice was completely drenched in the ropa vieja sauce that was much more watery than usual. It was like a soup. The ropa vieja itself looked different. There was no trace of tomatoes and the redness of it. It was just very brown and green with chunks of green peppers. The plaintains were also burned. The hell? I hope their quality wasn’t going down and it was simply an off day. I deducted half point for this and for the fact they closed a couple of times when I went there. It’s so disappointing when you were watered up for something and you couldn’t get to eat it. Please, stay cool and keep giving me reason to be eager to go to Cedar Rapids, Iowa!
