Authentic and Tasty. The staff was cheerful and the food was delicious. I had the parrillada Mexicana and fried ice cream. The grilled beef was especially good, with just the right seasoning. It was authentic Mexican food, easily the best in Des Moines.
It was a miss. My cousin and I were looking for a place to have margs on the southside. went in around 3:30 on a sunday afternoon. She got there before me and orderd a pitcher. I got there 5 min after her and there were only a few tables in the restaurant. 10 min later we asked the waitress about the margs and she said she didn’t forget but the machine wasn’t freezing the margs. After sitting there for 20 min she brought us two, what looked like frozen slushies with absolutely no flavor. We thought she forgot about the pitcher. We told her that we ordered a pitcher and she said she knew but still not freezing so she skimmed these off the top. After 40 min she brings a pithcher a lilltle over half full of margs in a warm pitcher, obviously just out of the dishwasher. Now we all know what happens to not so frozen margs in a warm pitcher. after a few min we asked for some ice and told her the pitcher was warm so the margs were not frozen. She brought a pitcher of ice. She should have first suggested, margs on the rocks, not frozen, due to the machine, then after forty min of waiting ,brought a whole pitcher ,not a little over half. I am assuming it was to make up for the two flavorless slushies. We ordered steak nachos and there was very little steak and alot of lettuce, which they have never put on there before. Had to ask for salsa three times. We have been there several times in the past so we new what to expect when it comes to the nachos and margs. I must admit sometimes it is a miss at this restaurant but this was pretty bad.
Real Mexican Food, Relaxed Atmosphere. You just can’t beat great, non-greasy fajitas with refried beans, salad, and Mexican rice for authentic Mexican food. Large fried ice cream with chocolate, raisins, and coconut topped off my meal and I was stuffed. A no hurry atmosphere made my meal that much better. 5 de mayo is Des Moines’ best -kept secret.
