I’d heard so much about this place that I decided to give it a shot for lunch. In a world of Hy-Vees and Dahl’s, it neat to know that a small neighborhood grocery and deli like this exists. The deli has a huge menu, including flour tacos and enchiladas, which I totally wasn’t expecting. Based on the hype of the Dad’s Killer Sandwich being the #1 deli sandwich in Des Moines, I figured I better go with the sure bet. I got the Dad’s Killer in a basket meal, which includes fries and a side (I opted for cole slaw). Everything comes to you wrapped in butcher paper, complete with the price written on it with wax pen. After you pay by the entrance/exit there is a counter-style seating area with lots of sports and Des Moines memorabilia (tends to be a lot of Des Moines Register and DMPD items hanging on the wall). The fries reminded me a lot of the fries from Steak ‘n’ Shake, but a little thicker. The cole slaw was very fine. As for the sandwich, it was delicious. I could tell that all of the meats were very fresh, as were the veggies. The Italian hoagie buns were also very fresh and flavorful. The tuscan Italian dressing and the cheeses are perfect for the sandwich. My meal (Dad’s Killer Sandwich in a basket plus a 20-oz. RC Cola) came out to be just a little over $10. Was it worth it? Yes. This meal was definitely plenty. I didn’t even eat breakfast and I couldn’t finish the meal. Everything in the sandwich was very high-quality and I know that a sandwich like this in a fancy Chicago deli would cost twice the price of B&B’s.

Best Sandwiches. These are the best sandwiches in town. Sometimes you have to wait a little bit, but it is worth the wait! Call ahead and the sandwich is ready for you!

Old school cool… But I think jut a bit small on the portion size on the sandwiches .

Must try. This is one of those places that you just have to try. Small, comfy, family-owned. You instantly feel welcome by the Brook’s family. Whether you are getting a Killer sandwich, some choice cuts of meat or shopping for groceries this store is representation of a time past, where service, quality, and customers mattered. Kudos to you all for an amazing business, and a great sandwich.

Love Dad’s Killer, hot. I am in DesMoines periodically for work and ALWAYS have a Dad’s Killer, Hot, cut in half, when I am in town. I really like the sandwich, and if I lived here I would be buying my meat here for sure. The people are great, especially Johnny (he’s holding the tray of meat). This place has been around for ages and has a certain charm – call me an old-timer, but this is truly a neighborhood place. One day when we were there, there was a note on the door, warning people they woud be closng early on a certain date. Turns out the local High School team was playing that day. Give them a try – you’ll like it!

Old school, cool.. An old school grocery store, butcher, and deli. It’s not often you find an old school family owned grocery store any more, and one with a butcher. Their deli include a big sandwich menu with sides, as well as cold cuts and cheeses. Grab a sandwich, a glass bottle of soda and enjoy it next to a police man and a 75 year old man in the standing only eating area.Another fun food spot in south-side DSM.

B&B is a Des Moines Landmark. You have to give B&B a try if you’re in Des Moines. They have a great butcher shop. You can’t go wrong with their steaks. Hungry? Their Killer Sandwiches are the best in Des Moines. B&B has a great atmosphere with great staff. It’s a nostalgic place with great food.
